A lot of kids like that, by the way, aren't even all that smart. They're reasonably intelligent, they just study a lot more. There are genuine prodigies, of course, but the kid who is in a class two years ahead of his age probably just got pushed by his parents, and is nothing more than a reasonably intelligent dork.

quote: Anyway, good luck Soul Survivor, have a good quarter/semester, whatever... Honors Calc? I took it, not worth it... |
well I really like math.... maybe if I had studied for that damn placement test I could have gotten into analysis.... or if I hadn't finished the 3 hour test in less than half that time..... oh well
quote: Ooof, Pierce..my condolences..unless you are an athlete, and then, well, nice gym access. Has Ratner opened up yet? |
Ratner is still under construction but a good portion of it is open, I passed my swimming test there. I have yet to use either of the facilities, but once the snow starts piling up I'll have to use the indoor track or the stationary bikes....
quote: As for people studying..don;t let them distract you from a good spell of procrastination..remember, most papers are due 6th week and finals week..no need to start them until 5th week, and 24 hours before they are due finals week. |
I've already decided to drop intro to astrophysics, I knew the class was going to be easy.... but its not even remotely interesting. "The moon is big but the sun is even bigger." An exact quote from the first lecture.....

Yeah but there's really no way of escaping those people...... I'm one of those unmotivated bums who didn't even bother with the "strongly recommended" interview and somehow managed to get in.

Verres, that is almost exactly what I was talking about. The kid in my high school who was two grades ahead of his age knew his mathematical formulas really well, and studied all day long, but was no better than average in things such as history, government, etc.

I..n..t..e..r..v..i..e..w..
That it is highly recommended is a bunch of crap...as belieable as the pool on top of Pierce.
Hmmm, the swimming test..good to know there is one university out there that wants to make sure it's students won't drown easily (I got screwed and had to take both my physical and swimming on the same day, 1 hour apart...damn I was tired, cause I was out of shape).

The easy science classes vary though...I took a few to avoid the miseries of chem of physics, and both were actually rather informative, and sadly most of the people in there with me looked utterly lost with the material: specially when my "easy chem" prof went to the board to give us the calc. equations underpinning the laws of thermodynamics....... that was on the day he wasn;t wearing a conductors outfit playing with a toy steam train (What members of the National Academy of Science get away with...)
As a pierce resident, you dine at Pierce, or Barlett (man, I remmeber when it was a gym, not a dinning hall..crapy gym)
Oh, and if you need a job in school, try the stacks department in the reg..you get to know were all the books are berore your classmates..and they pay 8.50 an hour.
