A few Sundays ago, Doonesbury ran a joke about masturbation. There was anticipated uproar and our editor even wrote an accompanying explanatory letter and authorized publishing two Doonesbury cartoons that day in an effort to mollify the furious masses.

Nobody wrote back, either complaining or commending.

My editor's never regained that lightness in his step since.

Actually I think you'll find that self-fondling tends to be more common among pre-schoolers than grammer school aged kids. I don't really see the point of exposing kids at that age to that sort of activity. They've already passed through the usual age of "self-exploration", i.e., when very little kids poke and prod every part of their body that they can reach, yet at age nine the nervous system hasn't yet matured to the point where they would derive same sensual satisfaction that an adult would. In fact, my impression is that a kid at age nine may find the activity painful. So what's the point? Is it some sort of "Clockwork Orange" kind of experiment exploring the effects of giving kids negative sexual reinforcement in the hopes of abating teenage promiscuity? By Jove! I think the Brits are on to something!

In my humble medical opinion not unless he was a pretty sick puppy. True precocious puberty is not a benign condition and requires medical treatment. OTOH maybe what he really produced was pee. That's possible, and if so could be the source of his problem with girls. Many women get REALLY, REALLY turned off by the whole golden showers scene. Maybe you should take him aside and explain the difference to him.
