They have to breed minks this way. Its to fulfill the demand created for replacement mink coats after their destroyed by the animal rights activists spraying paint on them.

The minks would be so better off if the animal rights activists would quit creating the need to kill more animals.

Just about every domesticated animal is breed to be killed. It is a rare cow (pun intended) which doesn't end up on the dinner plate. Same goes for chicken and most other animals. Fur is valuable and useful so why not harvest them just like we harvest leather and any number of other goods?

These greenick leftist losers are killing the animals just a surely as if they handed them over to the skinner. they need to be tried for property theft and then spend many years in jail.

Too bad minks aren't domesticated.

Yeah, it's the all the them durn leftists fault. They raise the demand by destroying fur coats, they kill all the animals. A handful of leftists sure is a powerful thing, to control entire markets. Please.

Leftists don't make the rich yuppies with bad fashion tastes parade around in dead animals. Hell, they don't even need to kill animals, they can use faux fur. And they aren't killing any animals, Oerdin, the people who bred them did. Every animal born into a factory farm is destined to nothing but a life of torture untill they are slaughtered. A swift death - or a chance to get out of their cage - is the best thing they could hope for.

Maybe the anti-fur activist should have thought about how to release these animals, but I can't blame them. inititally I was going to give the same sort of response Oerdin did, or maybe Genghis but the fact is that the reatment of these animals is beyond horrific, even if one asusme sthey are being bread to be killed. When farm animals are treated horribly (as they increasingly are in factory farms) people should complain. The sad tragedy is that after so much victimization, cruelty and horror, the animals are not fit for any sort of life anymore outside of it. It may sound extreme, but giving these animals a human way of dying (specially one that would make their fur uselss afterward) might have been the best release.

Exactly, they are bred to be killed, their fur taken, and their bodies ground up into dog food. We do the same thing with cow, chickens, pigs, etc. I see no difference.

Any way these leftie anti-fur folks are breaking a bunch of laws and they should be tossed in jail and all of their assets seized to help repay the farmer for the damage they've done.

I'm a vegetarian and think that the fur industry should be abolished. Still, I can hardly understand how one can be such a stupid moron to subject the animals to this suffering because "at least the minks are happy that they died in freedom"

These so called "animal rights activists" should be hacked up and sold as "Canned Cannibal Candy"

Again, I don't think the activists did this in an attempt to save those animals - as I said, there is little you can do to help a factory farmed animal, except stop it from happening again. I was just refuting the "oh no, dem horrible lefties is so cruel to animals!" BS. I'm sure that they're main objective was to hurt the buisness - even so, atleast the minks got a chance to get out of their 2 foot by 1 foot cage and actually move for once in their life.

Dog food? if you're lucky. They'll more likely end up as mink food, or cattle feed. And yes, the same disgusting thing are done to livestock. Factory farming is the same regardless of the market it's catering to.

Tired of ads?

I do agree that many of these "farms" treat the animals cruelly. The fact that they are going to be killed for product is irrelevant. Torturing and starving them before hand isn't civilized.

But there is nothing wrong with using animals for food and fur. That's the way the universe works.

However, animal activists are the most incompentent idiots of all. EVERYTHING they seem to do is WORSE than the organizations and systems they protest.

I'm not an extreme animal activist by any means, but I don't see the purpose of fur farms if we have synthetic alternatives available.

Tired of ads?

Does anybody else see the possiblity of a really sicko Hollywood movie based on this incident:

EXT. MINK FARM (NIGHT) -

A shadowy ALF-MEMBER and his cute dog FIDO creep through the shrubbery towards stacks of mink cages.

FIDO: Arf arf!
ALF: Shhhh, Fido, quiet.

The ALF-member and Fido sneak up to the cages.

ALF: Hi, little guys. We're here to free you.
MINK NO. 1: Chhk chkk chkk? Purrrrr.

The ALF-member begins opening the cages. As he moves along the line of cages, the minks in the open cage leap out and swarm Fido.

FIDO: Yip, yip, yip, yieeee!
MINKS 1-1000: Gobble, gobble, munch, munch, munch.
ALF: Oh no! They're eating Fido! Nooo! Fido! Nooo!
MINKS 1-1000: Gobble, gobble, munch, munch, munch.
ALF: Please stop! Please! Fido, oh Fido! Noooo! ---Hey, why are you minks looking at me like that?? No, no, no! Iiieeeeeeeeeee!

The minks swarm over the ALF-member.

MINKS 1-1000: Gobble, gobble, munch, munch, munch.

FADE OUT.

We don't need fur to survive, not anymore. We DO need food. And most domesticated animals are free-range, with some exceptions (calves used for veal, most chickens, hogs on mega-farms), so they don't suffer until the end. That's why I don't have a problem with leather or gelatin (by-products of food) but I do have an issue with furriers.

And you'll find anti-fur activists on all points of the political spectrum, so can the "leftie" crap.

I would think that starving and otherwise mistreating the animal would reduce the quality of its coat.

Canned leftie crap? No thanks, I think I'll stick to steak.

But seriously, I disagree with the notion that this sort of treatment of animals should be allowed... especially for animals that are not used for food for humans.

If it is food for humans, and economics are involved, then you have a moral dilemma. Cheap chicken for people who need animal protein to survive, or the welfare of the animals. Not an easy choice. However, that animals which are used for luxuries are treated this way makes me really hope that karma and the wheel of life are the ultimate truth.
