Yes, after winning the 2002 winter olympics and being second in the world cup, GERMANY will also host the next world cup. Be proud of your masters.

But since I suck at predictions, this is all I can contribute so far

On the FIFA site it's the only match that doesn't have a venue listed, even though it's supposed to be played tomorrow. I also read somewhere else on the FIFA site that Central Africa has withdrawn. That means that Burkina Faso is already qualified for the group stage and it gives us one less match to predict.

P.S. this is also the 24 hour warning, although I haven't seen kick-off times for these matches anywhere yet, so it is possible that you have a few hours more or less to post your predictions.

Edit: after some searching I found this site, which has the following fixtures for the Somalia-Ghana matches:
quote:
14/11/2003 Ghana - Somalia
16/11/2003 Ghana - Somalia (date to be confirmed)

So it looks like both matches will be played in Ghana in November.

I searched some more and found a South African site with confirmation about the Somalia match:
quote:
Ghana's tie with Somalia will be played over two legs in Ghana in November after Somalia ceded home advantage for the second successive qualifying campaign.

Here is my (not very scientific) system for predicting the winners in the African games.

A specific country is likely to win its game if:

- I have heard of it in any footballing context
- I can confidently place it on a map
- It is not currently involved in a major war ( this really shortens the list)
- If it has a big enough population to actually field, say, four teams to make a domestic league (ie not the Seychelles!)

Yea, this is what I use:

1a) the more obscure sounding country loses;
1b) if both countries sound equally obscure, they draw.

What I use: check qualifiers for last World Cup or African Nations Cup. See how many points the teams got, and account for different strength of opponents. If still in doubt, predict a draw. And I ended up with only one point less than Fergus, our resident African football expert.

I do what I do with all the prediction competitions. Look at the teams, wait for inspiration, and write the first thing that comes into my head.

But I didn't feel any vibes from this lot.
