Roman Times pg 1:
PEACE IN OUR TIME!
King Victor Emanuel I today applauded the French decision to respect Spanish neutrality today. "No one wishes to see a war between the great European powers. We congratualate France on its decision to pull back from the brink of war in the Western Mediterranean. This means peace in our time."
Roman Times pg 43:
TROUBLE IN TUNIS
The Italian Prime Minster recived approval from Parliament today to send troops into Tunisia to protect Italian interests. A recent outbreak of Berber violence threatened Italian business interests. Cpt. Bruno Luzietti of the 2nd cavalry division said today, "We'll show those natives a taste of Italy they won't soon forget." At home, the Socialist Party threatened a strike to protest so-called, Italian Imperialism. We support the Prime Minster in any actions he must take to maintain civil order in the face of the anarchist threat!

Yeah - there does seem to be an odd lack of conflict in central europe (aka the home of the non-newbies).

The key to the game is the name of the game.
Since you're newbies, I'm gonna tell you what you need to do.
Russia, Turkey, instead of fighting each other, you need to ally and move west.
France, you need an ally. You should have done whatever you could to secure England as a friend and been courting Italy at the same time, so that you could grab Spain and Portugal while being able to face Germany.
England is doing pretty well, but it should have been able to grab Norway last year.
