So, we've got a decent starting place, but marred by the close proximity of the Pythons to the North. The Monkeys are perhaps SW of the silks and I assume there's nothing SE of us.
There may be another civ round the far south-western corner, but assuming for now there isn't, then there seem to be 2 options:
1. A 3-civ continent - sharing techs as far as possible to be in a good positions relative to the other civs. Ideally this would involve mutual trust and peace etc to allow Republics to enjoy low unit costs and mutual tech gain. Mapmaking from the Monkeys could, as has been said, be a part of this deal.
2. A 2-civ continent. If there's not enough room, or if one of our neighbours considers that there's not enough room, then the swords will come out. We obviously have to be one of the two civs in such a scenario, probably the two in an alliance to ensure a 2-civ continent for themselves. Our cultural allies would be the Pythons, but geographically speaking they could easily see us as more of a problem than a distant civ.
The hybrid would be a later war, but a more tragic betrayal of trust and all the acrimony that brings...
Immediately though, we need to get some diplomatic feedback from the others ... we may have to favour one without upsetting the other.
