Apolyton Railroad Tycoon 2 thread Tired of ads?

So, I've been playing this cute little game, lately. And I must admit, I dig it immensly.

Wanna discuss? Got any great maps/scens? Anyone good at building scens? ( I completely suck)

Anyone want to play 1 on 1 via IP? We'll throw a couple of dumbshit AIs into the mix.

I like it too. For some reason quite a lot around here seems to dislike it. Don't know why.

If it could be complete, ala Transport Tycoon, it would kick ass so much, that it's hardly describeable.

Oh, and yeah, I liked TTDX a lot, as well. I wish it could have the grafix, and the more complicated economics of RRT, and yet still have the ships, cars, and airplanes....

Suffering from ads?

I dont understand how to make money within the stock market in rr2, nor when I should by my own stock or other company stock. My trains always run too slow and I'm never sure if I should build a few big stations or a lot of small ones. There are too many things to keep an eye on for a real-time game in rr2. I prefer turn-based games like Civ3.

That's the beauty of it. If you want time, you can always pause the game.

There are also plenty of nice guides that explain what the hell's going on.

No way.

First of all, you cannot build tunnels. What the hell? Secondly, the stock market is idiotic, so you don't have to build anything to win. Thirdly, industries can disappear even if you are using them all the time, totally destroying your plans.

I can keep going on, but there's no point.

Avatar Enlargement: We've got the solution

1.) Yeah, that's bad. But some of the tunnels in the old game could be quite unrealistic.
2.) In most of the scenarios you have to build to win. Besides, it's much more fun to build things than just winning for the sake of winning.
3.) Didn't that happen in the old game as well? In fact iirc, it was more of a problem back then. I can't remember that it has actually happened to me in RR2.

Yeah, never happened that Industries dissappeared when I used them. Esp. Since I own most of the industries I use.

Tunnels? Well, considering the fact that there are already enormous unrealistic water bridges, I think tunnels should be allowed only on maps with "high resolution".

1. True, but the solution is not to take out tunnels, but to make the contructions more realistic.

2. True too, my point though is the financial aspect dominates the game, which isn't good

3. Not when you own it.

But you can't build factories in RRT 2. Yeah, you can buy existing ones, but they are often not in the right places.

That IS true. In TTDX you could build them. But you didn't get any profit from them. I actually prefer this.

Personally, I think that an oil refinery should many times more than a train does, but the game doesn't agree with me.

Yeah, it came to me as a surprise the first time I played TT, too. I saved all that money.... FOR NOTHING. That pissed me off so much.

You know, another cool aspect would be if the industries would actually vary in price according to their profitablity. A well-supplied Steel Mill should cost much more than a poorly connected one, that is loosing money.

Maybe in the next game of the family, ALL of our recommendations could be accepted.

I enjoyed RT, RT2 and TT for what they were, but lets face it none of them were perfect. Nor do I think its possible to capture everyone with one game - some people want more complexity while others prefer playability. I'd rate all three of these ahead of games like Patrician 2 which went too heavily into complexity at the expense of stuff to make gameplay more fun.

Actually RRT2 was great that way. You didn't like Financial and economical complexity? You can ****ing turn it off, so it's almost Transport-tycoonesque level of difficulty, or you can turn the heat on, so it's very realistic.

What RRT2 seriously lacked is train and track management.
