Beyond the Food Pump: City Placement after Chow Mein Support Apolyton, buy Alpha Centauri

After the worker, Chow Mein will build a settler. Hopefully we can set it up to continue pumping out settlers.

Here's my opinion on city placement:

#1 A/B should be the next to be settled IMO; which spot should be used I don't know. I want to run corruption sims of both. I think this city should be used to build the Pyramids; it's about time we got started if we want have a good chance.

#2 is my pick for the second settlement. It can be used as a military camp, and could possibly survive till the end of the game depending on our other city placements

#3 gets the grass cattle plus a bonus grass. Potentially a worker pump, though corruption may be too high for it to build settlers at the same pace as growth. Corruption may also be too high for a granary to be beneficial; don't know. Should also be simmed I suppose.

I put a nice little question mark on the southern food bonanza for now. I think we should wait a few turns and see what Gourmand finds in the way of other city sites (and possibly LL?) before deciding on placement down there.

Avatar Enlargement: We've got the solution

As we discussed in chat, 1a and 1b are my picks too. 1b has the advantage of less corruption because of the RCP gambit. And if 2 is placed, they would all still have the same exact corruption. That would also set up nicely for your idea of capital abandonment down the road.

As for 1a, that would be fine with me too, though it would have slightly more corruption than Chow Mein and city placement #2.

*bump* I ran a sim of corruption percentages. Here are the results:

1A: 15%
1B: 8% (Same as others in the 2-distance ring)
2: 8%
3: 23%
N of the Plains Wheat with E-SE: This one depends on how many other cities are founded. If all the other cities in this list are founded, corruption is 33%. But if a city is abandoned (I tried abandoning #2 since I know that isn't a popular site), corruption drops by 8 percentage points to 25%

Put an end to popups!

So, in more concrete numbers:

1A: 1st corruption appears at 4 shields, 2nd corruption appears at 10 shields
1B: 1st corruption appears at 5 shields
2: 1st corruption at 5
3: 1st at 3 shields, 2nd at 7, 3rd at 11
N of the Plains Wheat with E-SE: 1st at 2, 2nd at 5, 3rd at 8, 4th at 11
N of the Plains Wheat without E-SE: 1st at 2, 2nd at 6, 3rd at 9, 4th at 13

Our next settler will be done in 3 turns (civ reports 4, but growth will cut it down by a turn). Where do we want to send it? I think 3 may be the best option; so long as we get the cattle irrigated, it will be capable of producing a worker every 5 turns.

Also, I think we will have to land-grab at least 2 city sites soon: One by the wheat at the bottleneck between our area and the rest of the continent, to secure our holdings, and one by the horse, which seems to be our only possibly source so far. Hopefully Fatty or Waiter will uncover a horse somewhere closer, but we can't count on it and may have to grab the southern horse, which may be difficult if LL is close.
