Just Curious. Support Apolyton, buy Civilization III: Complete

Due to Lancer saying "Just drive on over to Las Vegas", it occurs to me that maybe some of you know Texas is big, but not just how big.

West-East, from Texarkana to El Paso is about 812 miles.
North-South, From Amarillo (and there's other little towns north of Amarillo, so add 60 miles or so) to Brownsville is about 877 miles.
268,601 square miles.
And that means what, exactly ?

France - 211,154
Japan - 145,844
Germany - 137,767
Italy - 116,275
United Kingdom - 94,501

For another thing, that's why horse thieves were hung.
Forget the stinkin' redskins.
That was life-threatening no matter what else.

A little trivia, JUST so you know.

The only reason to know how big it is is so you're better able to avoid it.

Q: Where's the best place in Texas to be?

A: The exact center. That way, whichever direction you're headed, you're headed out.

Texas, Our Texas
Written by William J. Marsh and Gladys Yoakum Wright
Composed by William J. Marsh

Texas, Our Texas! all hail the mighty State!
Texas, Our Texas! so wonderful so great!
Boldest and grandest, withstanding ev'ry test
O Empire wide and glorious, you stand supremely blest.

Texas, O Texas! your freeborn single star,
Sends out its radiance to nations near and far,
Emblem of Freedom! it set our hearts aglow,
With thoughts of San Jacinto and glorious Alamo.

Texas, dear Texas! from tyrant grip now free,
Shines forth in splendor, your star of destiny!
Mother of heroes, we come your children true,
Proclaiming our allegiance, our faith, our love for you.

God bless you Texas! And keep you brave and strong,
That you may grow in power and worth, throughout the ages long.
God bless you Texas! And keep you brave and strong,
That you may grow in power and worth, throughout the ages long.

Funny part is, Texas and Alaska have about the same inhabitable space........about the size of Rhode Island.

Help yourself to an AD-FREE life

So Texan men brag about the size of their state, because they don't have something else that they have that they're much more modest about.

Nevada is clearly the best state. we have legal medical marijuana where I live.

Legal sports betting that won't rip you off (like those offshore sports betting rings). legalized prostitution. The best strip clubs in the world. The best shows in the world. The best music acts in the world (though they charge outrageous prices). We even have oxygen bars

Basically we have the best of everything. And no state income tax.

Put an end to popups!

Here is something interesting--

Third -- New States of convenient size not exceeding four in number, in addition to said State of Texas and having sufficient population, may, hereafter by the consent of said State, be formed out of the territory thereof, which shall be entitled to admission under the provisions of the Federal Constitution; and such states as may be formed out of the territory lying south of thirty-six degrees thirty minutes north latitude, commonly known as the Missouri Compromise Line, shall be admitted into the Union, with or without slavery, as the people of each State, asking admission shall desire; and in such State or States as shall be formed out of said territory, north of said Missouri Compromise Line, slavery, or involuntary servitude (except for crime) shall be prohibited.
