I was just *assaulted* on 'Poly by a damn *army* of pop-up ads! There were so many of them, I lost count of them — but I do know that one of them was that piece of crap Gator ad. I also had to decline *12* cookies! TWELVE!!! Never in my years at 'Poly have I had an instance like this happen until today!
What is this, the beginning of a new trend? Advertisers that can get away with anything they want? I tell you, if that's the case, I will begin using ad-killer software. Yeah, it might hurt 'Poly's bottom line, but here's something else to consider: If 'Poly can't stand up to its advertisers, and they pull stunts like this, you can kiss a chunk of the user base goodbye, IMO. Word-of-mouth will also spread. Neat, isn't it? A double-edged sword, I tell ya.
And, yes, my 'Poly settings are such that I'm not supposed to be getting pop-up ads up the ying-yang. Ain't helpin' much, though, it seems.
Why the hell advertisers think pop-ups generate sales, I'll never know. Maybe the world is populated my MORONS who actually click on them, thus making the rest of us suffer. Good grief. I don't mind banner advertising at all, but I swear upon every holy being ever imagined, pop-up ads (especially those that attempt to download unwanted software) are Satan incarnate.
