Try a pregnant wife.

They just say I'm fat every minute of every day. And you have to respond no your not in the face of quite convincing evidence to the contrary.

When my wife was eight months pregnant she couldn't get in her car as someone had parked too close to it. I made the mistake of slightly smiling at this story.

i'm a techie geek, yes, but not an engineer. problem is, she's a techie too (a girl who likes the unix command line? yes, indeed, they exist! (although she doesn't do much with it...)). so what better way to show empathy than to offer to do anything for her?

For the last 10 years I've been pretending to lose my hearing. So when asked the "no win" question, I just pretend I didn't hear it. Any question that has to be repeated 3 times starts to sound stupid.

indeed. i've been doing that for the last five years on general principle. it's a fracking great excuse to not talk to someone, if you 'can't' hear them...
