OK - the ACDG "speed game"
Some questions pre set-up
1. Should it be smac only, to alow for everyone to get a chance to play the turn
2. Presumably the factions would all be teamed from the current teams - and play the current faction (within smac limitations) where possible (eg, Hive will play Hive, Uni play Uni, Pirates play Gaians, Drones play Morgan and Cycon play as the PKs)
3. CMN advanced start (maybe 4 cp's, 3 scouts, a unity foil) to give something to do in those early turns
4. Coop victory disabled
5. Any other specific rules - see:

for some of the things that could be done in a scenario start - eg no tech trading, no Council, etc etc.
6. AI or no AI (and if so, how strong - the Spartans and Believers could be made into a really strong aggressive combination)

Sounds like an idea, if getting SMAX is big issue for some people, then smac would be better.
2. Presumably the factions would all be teamed from the current teams - and play the current faction (within smac limitations) where possible (eg, Hive will play Hive, Uni play Uni, Pirates play Gaians, Drones play Morgan and Cycon play as the PKs)
Let each team decide. But if two teams want the same faction, preference is given to the team that is already playing that faction.
3. CMN advanced start (maybe 4 cp's, 3 scouts, a unity foil) to give something to do in those early turns
I don't see any disagreement
4. Coop victory disabled
Heh, well that's probably a good idea otherwise alliances in the real ACDG will spread over into the speed game.
5. Any other specific rules - see:
No planetary council - because planetary councils slow things down.
6. AI or no AI (and if so, how strong - the Spartans and Believers could be made into a really strong aggressive combination)
Strong AI would be nice. Not so strong that they plaster the humans. Remmeber that if you turn cooperative victory off humans won't be teaming up against the AI.

I think the main issue is that it's made clear that the first person that sees the turn and is able should play it. Also if there's any adjustments that you can do that will reduce the time it takes to play the turns then it would be great if you can do it.
Maybe we should have a rule against email communication between humans. That will stop the slow down of diplomancy I think.
