A really dumb question... Tired of ads?

Well hello all,

Im jay, Canadian living in NC. Love Strat games. I swore up and down to boycott Faxis and Prima for the atrocity of Moo3.(out of curiosity, has anyone played the patched version of Moo3? is it sigh..better?)
or has anyone tried GalCiv? is it good?

Ohh you want me to stay on Topic... Ok....

I bought Civ3 the other day... and WOW! very impressed. I see where their attention was focused. So, I tinkered around with it. Love the game.

Okay, bare with me.

I'm a newbie to civ3. How exactly,
do I make an army with my leader. ?

I know read the manual... :P

But, humor me here.

Thanks in advance

Jay

Enter the AD-FREE zone

I have not tried Moo3 with the patch yet.

I enjoyed Galciv, but was not in love with it.

You should be able to see an option on the leader that say hurry city production and next to should be a button that says build army.
I have encounter a few conditions where that is not allowed.
One is if you do not have enought cities and already have an army.
Another is if you have no movement points left and the third one I recall is if you are not in a city.

Support Apolyton, buy Galactic Civilizations

It sounds like vmxa's third sticking point may be where your problems lie. You have to have the leader in a city to use either of his functions.

Do you mean "Firaxis"? In fairness to them, they had nothing to do with Moo3. Moo3 was developed by Quicksilver and published by Infogrames/Atari.

I know this is not the place but could you give a short comparison between the two?

Your leader also has to be in a city for the "make army" button to appear.

Both have tech trees, both have trading mechanisms and tech to help with it. You have the unhappiness issues in both.
The one unique thing in GalCiv is the random events and the need to make a choice among the periodic events. One will be moral and one will not. You have objects scattered about space that can only be "picked up" by certain vessels and bestow some benefits, ala monoliths in SMAC, but not that significant.
You have to build structures on your planets, same as cities.
You have star base type objects that can be improved and give benefits, some what like a wonder, except it is more like small wonders as all can build them. You will not have massive fleets, but will have combat. I think they now offer a demo, but it is very large IIRC. Maybe it will show up on one of the game mags disk.

I took it to be Galciv and CivIII, as I never mentioned Moo3.

Sorry about the OT.

Support Apolyton or Terrorists Win

Indeed the comparison was between GalCiv and CivIII.

Thanks for the analysis.

Could you rate both on a scale of 1 to 10.
