Panag, this scenario (like most of them) is shorter than the 540 turn epic game. You don't need as big of a tech tree if the game is shorter.

Granted, this isn't very important, but take a look at the icon for the technology 'Mining'. It looks like they've got the 'Military Tradition' icon there. That seems a little weird, since the author of the scenario came up with new icons for the other new techs. A new 'Mining' tech also occurs in the Mesopotamia scenario, and I wonder if there's something buggy with it. We could just be looking at place-holder art, though.

anyhoo, I'll play all scenarios most likely. though I'm not that interested in playing the Japanese one since I don't much care for it's setting. Pre-modern Japan is one of the few areas in history I really don't care much about.

Definitely place-holder art. I remember back in October 2001, a mere month before Civ3 came out, screenshots showed that all improvements in the building city-list had the icon of the police station.
And Civ3 was already gone gold at that point.

I seem to recall a beta-tester hinting that one of the scenerios was very short, and more like a tutorial. I hope this doesn't mean many of us will be disappointed that one of our favorite eras is poorly re-created.

On the other hand, like everyone says (way too often), "There's always the editor".

Really Panag? I'm fascinated to know how you're so certain of this.

Slax- I don't think any of the eras were poorly re-created, and I'm a bit of a history junkie.

Firaxis said in a chat that the AI understands the rules and will operate with them in mind. That also means attacking your units as you attempt to bring a "relic" back.

hi ,

thats correct , the AI shall try to follow what its program tells it do , .....

we could maybe see the AI loosing everything just trying to bring one of the 10 000 culture points for free goods , but that unlikely , firaxis should have this balanced , .....

and since Soren gave the AI a more less " learning " cap , we could see it going further this time , ....

Full PM-box? Change here!

Well, a basic part of game-playing AI is thinking what move the oppoent would make (Y) if you do (X), and chosing X accordingly. (Well, several layers deeper than that, but that's the idea)

So, the AI should be strongly protecting the relic and keeping it out of danger as well.

hi ,

one can only wonder at this point , but its more then likely that the AI shall still be able to see the map and all of the units , ....

The AI does a reasonable job protecting its Kings in regicide games so I think the AI will do well here also.

The Fall of Rome / Napoleon...

I am torn between these two...

I played 15mm Ancients for quite a while;
I also have 25mm & 15mm English / Napoleonic Armies...

So I am very interested how Civ III deals with these periods and the variuos issues that relate to them.

I suppose that I will play the "Fall of Rome" first...!

I like Fall of Rome a lot - warmongers (shocking surprise) will love it too - I just can't call it a favorite because I spent more time testing it than any other scenario.

I still see that map in my sleep, months later.

For some reason, I think its the Mesopotamian Scenario

Its the only one I can think of that could possibly be easier.

BTW, based on the preview alone, I've already started to think of new ideas to mod that scenario with.

I would say that in this case some of the beta testers are quite well-informed, actually. It's the people who stare at screenshots and rumor clips and pontificate that don't know what's going on...most of the time.
