Which Conquest you are most looking forward to? Support Apolyton buy from Amazon

So, we now know quite much about many Conquests. We have the designer diaries for the following Conquests:
- Ancient Mesopotamia
- Fall of Rome
- Mesoamerica
- Middle ages
- The Japanese civil war
- The AGe of Discovery

The other scenarios (whose designer diary hasn't been made pulic yet) are:
- Rise of Rome
- Napoleonic Europe
- WW2 in the Pacific

So, which of these ones are you most looking forward to?

I personally can't wait to play the Middle Ages conquest. With the several Christian and Muslim factions, as well as the Norse menace, the scenario looks simply huge It seems there is a huge variety in the scenario, and there will be much infighting and much building; and to me, such balance between war and peace is what Civ3 is all about
Besides, the Relic system (10,000 points when you bring a Relic at Jerusalem) is an excellent way to add more thrill to the conquest.

I'm also thrilled by the Japanese conquest, because of its sheer scale (540 turns! ) and also because I like the period. It seems to be an excellent military conquest that will also leave much room to purely Civish gameplay, with important techs and some extent of diplomacy. Looks really good.

Middle Ages. It's a warmonger's dream with loads of replayability (the different civs play differently).

Having said that they are all fun.

Fall of Rome certainly is interesting, but the most I look forward to Age of Discovery. I loved colonization, and although this is quite different I am sure I will like it a lot. Being able to fight in Europe and playing an American civ sounds really fun

I'd say the Napoleonic War is the one I'm most looking forward to - despite the lack of any info about it.

Mesapotamia would be frustrating, I feel, because of how 'soon' it ends.

The Rise of Rome and the Fall of Rome might be interesting but the former more than the latter I feel - you only have to take/loose five Roman/Byzantine cities for the scenario to end.

The Middle Ages - hell yeah, but more for pillaging fun with the Vikings than actually messing about with crusades and what have you.

Japan - 18 Civs might be a little excessive but as far as I can see a lot of work went into this one - it could turn out to be the best of the bunch; certainly the most stand-out.

The Age of Sail - I have grave fears about this one, mainly because of how low my opinion was of it's Civ 2 Equivalent. It has so much potential I just hope it isn't wasted. ( In Sid We Trust ).

WW2 in the Pacific - I don't think I'll be able to bring myself to enjoy this one. I've never much liked the pacific themed Second World War Scenarios and I'm liable to just feel frustrated if I enjoy it because there isn't a Europe equivalent.

Five scenarios I feel have to be made:

WW2 in Europe
The American Civil War
The Cold War
World War One (?)
Invasion of the Hodads Part II

( You may notice this would take the tally more or less exactly to the contents of the Civ 2: Conflicts disk. Then again you may not ).

Am I the only person to spot the fact this is thread 99999 on Ap or was everyone else to polite to mention it?

Fortunately, the "native alliance" and the "neutral alliance" have disappeared. Although the scenario only features the Atlantic Ocean, there are more Civs in it than there were on Civ2's scenario's world map.

I'm thinking WW II in the Pacific.

Most random maps are such that there's really not much of a need for a navy at all, and I haven't seen a randomally generated map yet where the aircraft carrier is useful.

WW II in the Pacific has a strong potiential to have Air Craft Carriers be absolutely esstiential. (As long as they didn't place too many starting cities on South Pacific islands.)

Lose 30 kilos (of popups)

It really depends on how the computer is able to cope with the concept of point-based victory conditions. As I understand it the Age of Sail gives you points based on what transatlantic resources you are able to bring back to Europe, yes? If they've done it right then the computer civs will grasp this and try to do what they are meant to. If they haven't done it right then what happened with Civ 2 will happen with Civ 3 and Spain will declare war with France which will in turn ally with Portugal and obliterate Spain while I - in Britain - carefully ferry across defensive and colonial units two ships at a time which takes ages because of the lack of porductivity from the 3-4 Uk cities.

Which I think you'll agree, would kind of suck.

Still... fingers crossed.

AoD and WWII Pacific both will be made or broken by the AI. They could be the best two, or the worst. Middle Ages looks like it will be pretty good.

Japan has a lot of potential to be the best. I really like Japanese history and the Japanese scenario just looks so cool. My only concern regarding this scenario is it's replayability; it seems the very focused time and area may damage it in this respect.

I haven't really read about the Middle Ages one yet.

Rise of Rome. But I'm a Roman history buff, so that's pretty much a given.

I'm not too excited about the Fall of Rome conquest after reading the designer diary. Just didn't thrill me. The diaries for MesoAmerica and Age of Discovery had the opposite effect - I didn't think they would interest me at all, but now I'm sure I'll be playing both, and probably more than once. And of course the Middle Ages will be given a thorough work out as well.

None of the above mentioned,I definetly vote for the epic game.

P.S. Maybe the WWII Pacific and the Romans scenarios could be useful to import into the epic game some units.

In Age of Discovery they did not foresee one huge problem. After a couple of runs with resources(treasure units)/colonist/missionaries it becomes really boring. Who played Colonization will know what I am talking about.

In Colonization it was even somewhat better. The most of trans-oceanic path was abstracted: you send the unit out in the high-sea (set of special squares at the western and eastern part of map), the ship is put in delay box, and the Europe is just a trade screen where you unload cargo with auto-sell of goodies and load with auto-buy goodies. The saving grace that later you could build Custom Houses and sell goods in your ports without use of actual ships, but you still needed to move ships back and forth for collonists.

So far, the most promising for single play is Mesopotamian: victory conditions are wonders (AI is ok with that) building and fighting for them. Others are not very promising to me because they include concepts that AI will had troubles with: King units with good off/def (Japan scenario), capturing Jerusalem and moving treasure units to it (Middle ages), Age of Discovery: moving trasure units across the sea again, in Meso-America: blood sacrifice for culture (I doubt that AI can use them properly either).

Middle Ages and Japan sound like the best ones for replayability, which is the main thing IMHO.

Mesapotamia and Meso-American sound like the best ones for PBEM play, which is also important.

Age of Discovery and Napolean are the ones I'm most looking forward to playing in SP.

Basically I just can't wait to play.

Ooh, I forgot about Japan. I'll probably play the conquests in this order:

Rise of Rome
Japan
Middle Ages
MesoAmerica
Mesopotamia
Age of Discovery
Napoleon

Not sure if I'll bother with WWII or Fall of Rome.
