RELEASE DATE ANNOUNCED(Feb. 5)
Today, Activision announced that C:CTP will hit the shelves on March
16th. Needless to say, Civ'ers and the rest of the gaming community can
hardly wait! It is shaping up to be an excellent year for turn-based
strategy gamers. At the same time, they also informed site visitors that
Lt. John will be taking over the task of updating their CTP pages; its
current and inagural webmaster, Phoebus, is leaving Activision to pursue
other opportunities.
13 PAGES OF CTP (Feb. 2)
In the first play preview of C:CTP, Gamespot took an in-depth look at the
game. The result was a 9-page preview along with a 4-page interview of
Cecilia Barajas. Lots of new info, a must read.

EBWorld News - 4 February 1999
--EBworld now lists SMAC for a February 10th release. It's only one week!
They also have a $10 rebate if you order it until the end of February,
which makes the price $39.99. Finally, you've probably seen the note on
the official page, EB will host a chat with Sid Meier and Brian Reynolds
on the 18th. Our thanks to Andrew Solovay and Alex Cohen who've sent us
these news.
New BR Interview - 4 February 1999
--IGN has a new interview of Brian Reynolds. He talked about the creation
of the game, the decisions that had to be made, the add-on which is in the
works, and lots of other stuff.
New Gallery - 3 February 1999
--It's Sci-FI Week for Gamepost UK and they have new image gallery for
SMAC. Not many images, and most stuff is not actually not new, but still
worth a look
Story Episodes 33&34 - 2 February 1999
--The first is a bit old news. The second was posted yesterday. Check out
Epidodes 33 ("The ship is coming apart. Zakharov could feel it...") and 34
("Pravin Lal entered the shadows of Bay Five with his hands raised.").
AC on PCGamer - 1 February 1999
--Word on the forums is that PCGamer will put the fancy version of the
Alpha Centauri demo in next months issue as an exclusive and feature
several articles on the full game as well. CGW also has review and
strategy pieces in the can as well, though they appearantly lost out to
PCGamer in securing the demo for print. It should be noted that their
sister publication Gamespot did have exclusive web rights to the demo and
still carries version 1.0 for those wishing to play more than 100 turns.

**Civ2 for Mac Section /mac
Maintained by Romulo Romero
2/4/99. I've been playing way too much Baldur's Gate(will it ever come to
the mac) but I do have a bit of news on Civ II Gold. Brian S. Nesse,
Development Manager/ Sr. Software Engineer at MacSoft) posted the
following bit on Usenet this week:
We are currently trying to work through networking issues. It seems that
somewhere between beta and GM Microprose decided to radically alter the
networking code. The networking code we had contracted based on the beta
code works very badly with the GM code and the guy who did the work has
moved on. :( We are working through someone else now to get the fixes
implemented. AFAIK we are still shooting for release sometime this
month(emphasis added).
