From: "Apolyton Announcements (Apolyton Civilization Site)" Subject: Apolyton&Friends News 10-16/June/99 Greetings everyone, This is the news of last week(10-16/June/1999). If you have a civ2, ctp or smac site and want your news included here, mail Dustin Dunn at dustind@concentric.net Finally, the patches for the x86 and ppc version of the linux CTP port has been released, you can find them in our CTP Files Database ![]() =========The news from Apolyton========= ---------------------------- **Civilization III Section ![]() TFC3H ARCHIVE (June 16, 1999) TFC3H stands for The First Civilization 3 Homepage, the first fan site devoted to civ3 suggestions. Created and maintained from 1996 to 1998 by Dorian Cred?, TFC3H had eventually a quite large number of suggestions. We are happy to have all these suggestions archived here in our Civ3 section, as a reference for the ongoing discussions in our forums and comparisons with the newest civ games as well as of course Civ3, when it comes... In our suggestions area we will also be posting the first version of The List, which is coming in a few days, as well as the future versions. RANDOM EVENTS: YES, BUT OPTIONAL (June 15, 1999) Our first poll on random events ended. After 827 votes we had: 41% saying yes, 56% saying that it should be optional and only a 3% saying no. On our second poll, we ask if civ3 should have a unit workshop like smac. Vote now! Our thanks to Tore Kullgren, Harel Eilam and Ata who suggested the second poll, and to Bill Kalb and Sam0307 who sent us other poll ideas ![]() MAC SALES HIGH AGAIN (June 16, 1999) PC Data released their US sales listings for May. The PC versions were not in the top 20(looks like the bargain offer ended), but the Mac versions continued to sell well. The Gold version was on the 4th place, one higher than it's first month, while the original version(at a lower price) took the 6th. The first place was taken for a second month by Starcraft... 5 NEW FILES (June 11, 1999) 5 New files in our DB today. These are The Great Clash, Fighters, French Fascist Patch, HiRes and Title. There are plenty more coming. so stay tuned. We also have a new page for those who want to submit a new file. As always we do need your help in making this Database bigger. If interested, mail Sven Muencheberg ![]() ![]() ![]() *Site Updates 12.May Column #45; By Reismark "Notes from the undermunity" ![]() 11.June 5 New files in DB. ---------------------------- **Civilization: Call to Power Section ![]() WINNERS NOTIFIED (June 16) Less than 24hrs. after the "Power Up!" Contest closed, all the entries have been marked and we have ten lucky winners who have been notified via email today that they are a recipient of either a copy of the game, C:CTP, or its Official Strategy Guide, depending upon which form they originally filled out. We should mention that the competition for the copies of the Game was quite stiff, and as a result we had to use a lottery system to choose the final winners. We would like to take this time to thank all of those who participating in our contest, the first to be held by us here at ACS. If you were one of those 104, again, thank you! And of course, a big round of thanks from everyone to Activision, who really made this contest possible in the first place. We ask that each and everyone of you who entered to check your email to see if you are one of those winners! If so, as reminded in the email, you have 72 hours in which to respond to confirm your prize; otherwise, it will be passed onto the next contestant down until we do have ten responses for all the items up for grabs. And to our visitors not living in the continential United States, Canada and Mexico and were thus ineligible to enter, we hope that you will keep your browsers pointed here for future contest possibilities. STAR WARS: CTP (June 16) If Activision makes an add-on or a second version of CTP it should name it Star Wars not Civilization! Why? "Star Wars Episode I: Phantom Menace" with only two weeks in the market grabbed the first place is PC Data's US sales listings for May. It also took the 3rd place in the all-categories listing. Back to the pc games category, Baldur's Gate Add-On was in the 2nd place, SimCity 3000 dropped one spot down to the 3rd, while the other SW game, "Star Wars Episode I: Racer", was 4th. "Roller Coaster Tycoon" stayed on the 5th, and 6th, who else, C:CTP falling from the 1st spot. In the all-categories listing, C:CTP fell from the 6th to the 11th place. DESIGNING MP MAPS (June 10) Summer has started, schools are closing, seems like it's time for some multiplayer battles! But as Brad Santos writes "In a multiplayer game, map balance is perhaps the most crucial factor in determining whether the game is going to be enjoyable, close fought match, or just an unfair stomping". So, what should one take in mind when designing a map for multiplayer games? Dr No has the answer... ![]() *Site Updates 15.June Power Up!
