From: Apolyton Announcements (Apolyton Civilization Site)
Subject: Apolyton&Friends News 27/May-3/Jun/99

Greetings everyone

a day late, these are the news of the week(27/May-3/Jun).
The most important news are the release of the CTP Sprite Tool and our
"Power Up!" Contest.

In the "Friends" part of the newsletter, news from Jorrit's Civilization
II Page, Dan 717's Civ2 Page, Mike's Civ2 Scenarios and Mr Temba's. If you
have a civ2, ctp or smac site and want your news included here, mail
Dustin Dunn at dustind@concentric.net

5/00? HMMM.... NO
(June 2, 1999) Chips&Bits lists Civilization III for May 2000 release.
Several days ago, we had asked Brian Reynolds for a release date and he
responded
"We don't have any firm plans yet as far as release date, so don't take
seriously anything you see that's more specific than my original
prediction of "early in the third millenium". ;-)"

OFFICIAL CIV3 FORUM
(June 2, 1999) Firaxis opened the official civ3 forum today.Meanwhile, our
civ3 forums will soon have more than 5000 posts!

HoF Instructions
--(June 3 1999) The HOF page is coming up sometime next week(hey, we have
exams too you know!). In the meantime, read the instructions, and end your
saved games to pythagoras@apolyton.net.

The View From Firaxis
--(June 3 1999) Stephen Lee, Firaxis.com webmaster, have put up a page
with pictures from the Firaxis offices. Something you should definetely
check out. Also, I might be wrong, but I think the Team page have been
updated too. Anyway, it's a good read. News found on Sidgames.

SPRITE TOOL!
(June 2) Activision released the Sprite Tool(1.4MB) today. Here it's
description from the official site:
"This Sprite Tool is for use with a fully installed version of
Civilization: Call to Power. The purpose of this tool is to allow users to
create and/or edit their own art to include in the game. Download the
compressed file and uncompress it to your hard drive. Once uncompressed,
open Readme.html"> to view the licensing agreement and detailed instructions
on how to use the tool.

THE PHANTOM STRIKES
(June 2) PC Data released their US sales listing for the week of May
16-22. CTP droped from the 4th to the 5th position. The reason? The two
new Star Wars games: Star Wars Episode 1: Phantom Menace and Star Wars
Episode 1: Racer. Third was SimCity 3000, and fourth Roller Coaster
Tycoon.

"POWER UP!" CONTEST
(June 1) From Apolyton CS (ACS) and Activision Inc. (ATVI) comes an event
that you won't want to miss out on being apart of: our Power-Up! C:CTP
Contest! Enter now for your chance to win one of 5 copies of the game or
one of 5 copes of the official strategy guide from BradyGames!
While this contest is only open to residents of continental North America,
we have plans down the road for a similar contest that will be open to
other world markets.

CD'S MOD V.4
(May 28) Probably the best mod for CTP, Celestial Daws's "Play CTP as it
Should Be" Mod was upgraded to version 4. The bigest changes from v3 are:
"i) a modified Trade system designed to encourage Trade;
ii) a revamp of Governments in order to allow for more interesting choices
between them;
iii) the improvement of Science buildings to make the Science v Gold
decision more valid;
iv) the primacy of Air Power to make the Modern Age more interesting; and
v) Great Library updates for all the changes and entries for all the new
units and advances.
For more see the readme, or better download it.

STATUS REPORT 052799
(May 27) John Heinecke posted on our forums a "Status Report" on what the
ctp team is doing these days:
"- International Patches: they are still closing bugs. Best guess for
release of German, French and Italian patches is mid-to-late next week,
with Spanish to follow a few days later.
- Graphics tool: we are releasing the graphics tool very soon (in a few
days). You will be able to modify unit art, terrain, animations, goods,
etc. The tool will, like our other scenario documents, be unsupported by
our Customer Support group- so back up everything that you modify.
- Demo: the demo is in final testing and should be ready for release soon.
- 2nd patch: we're monitoring feedback about the first patch, and once the
demo is done, we'll take a look and see what needs to be addressed in
patch 2."

FOR THE ADVANCED PLAYER...
(May 27) Brad Santos, one of ctp's designers(Dr No in our irc chats), give
some of his personal strategies for the higher levels of ctp in the latest
"Developer's Corner".
"At the highest levels of difficulty, the Call To Power AI will completely
outstrip most human players industrially, financially, and
technologically. To prevail against such an opponent, you will need to
exploit every advantage you can take."

One Day Tournament Event
--(June 02) How many games of pure blood-bath Civ II can you handle in one
day? We're about to find out. For you diplomats out there your time is
coming, but this event will concentrate on one thing; blood. On Saturday
June 5th we will hold a one-on-one, tiny map tournament. What makes this
unique is that all the games for this tournament will be held in the same
day. Read the rules here

Errors!!! :<
--(June 01) Well we have had two errors lately. One error has stopped some
people from logging into their accounts. If this happened to you, you
should be able to login now.
The other error is that new accounts are not getting id numbers, then
should be fixed within a couple of days.
DO NOT report a win unless every one in you game has an id number. If they
don't have one yet you will have to wait until they do
If, in the last 5 days, reported a win against someone without a number
you will have to report the win again. This error caused a lot of scores
to be messed up and they had to be fixed by hand. So, you may find errors
in your score, or other peoples score. If you see an error in scoring
please report it.
