	That burning ring of fire. Suffering from ads?

Well, this kind of sucks. There is currently a large fire burning out of control approximately five miles away from my house. So far 30 houses have burned to the ground and the fire is still out of control.

The city is requesting a volintary evacuation of Scripps Ranch (the suburb where I live) and the red cross has turned my old high school into an emergency releaf center. Currently the fire is heading south west and I live almost due south so hopefully the fire will not burn my house. The sucky thing is I've lived in Scripps most of my life and I know just about everyne else who lives here so I actually am friends with some of the people who's homes burned down.

I've seen footage of the fire on TV.

Don't hesitate and evacuate. That would be too bad to lose your home, you wouldn't wwant to lose your life as well

No, JM, we mean, pull the harddrive out of the computer and leave everything else. They're small and much easier to transport than the whole PC.

Now that you've read our advice, get off the computer, pack, and get the **** outta dodge. Fire don't play.

Oh, and bring all of the CD's to your computer games (music, as well, actually). They don't take up much space but can be costly to replace.

Oh, the fire is moving slow enough so I'm not afraid of dieing. I'm afraid of losing everything my family and I have worked towards for our entire life. I know money doesn't matter and it sucks when anyone loses their home but I'm looking across the way watching $1million houses go up in flames.

I snapped a few digital pictures which I can post latter when everything is over.

Anything that costs money can be replaced -- be sure to pack anything that you will miss that cannot be replaced.

The TV just announce the volintary evacuation has become a manditory evacuation. I'm loading up my car with my passport, birth certificate, a change of clothes, jewlery, computer, cameras...

Any suggestions for stuff that would be important?

Screw the books. They're heavy and take up lots of space.

What you want to take are your personal legal papers, anything which proves what your property is worth, and maybe a list of what you have so it can be replaced.

We had to go through a similar thought excercise while we weer wondernig if that Cat 5 hurricane had Jacksonville's name on it. You figure out pretty quick what's important and what isn't.

I've got a family album of pcitures of my great uncle who died in WWII. That would come with. So would my great-great-grandfather's sword. I'd pull the harddrive from my PC, and I'd take a few of the rare or hard to find cds and books, my legal papers (include your property maps), the digital camera with pictures of everything, the cats and the bunny, food, water, some spare clothes, pillows, blankets, medicine, prescriptions, a can opener, phone numbers of friends, records of paid bills, I think that's about it.

These fires came up quick. I was just in California last week, and I didn't see any smoke. Though it was hazy.

lightweight sentimental objects (i know you love your 2 ton bust of your great-great-uncle, but it might be a little too heavy )
proof that you own things
several forms of ID, and passports, etc.
cash
a computer. seriously; it shouldn't be too hard to unplug and throw in the trunk; and it will provide a lot of entertainment if the thing does go up (I pray it doesn't though )

and essentials:
change of clothes
first aid pack
etc.

Although it looks like you only had 30 minutes to round all this up...hopefully you've got all your family members safe, and hopefully you don't lose anything.

It's probably a good idea to keep a first aid pack and change of clothes ready to go regardless of situation (also some bottled water and some nonperishable food....can't be too prepared you know). Also, whenever they announce even a voluntary evacuation, haul ass, because it's against the odds that it will just stay at 'voluntary' (and even when it's not you don't want to risk it becoming so and being unprepared).
