I live in the South Bay area so I am not in any areas that can burn down. There is a lot of haze in the sky and is blocking some of the sunlight. Also there is ash falling even here, allthough it is not that much.

Ok, you're a newbie. We had the poly meet last summer so you weren't living here. La Jolla is nice but you need to drive around and check the rest of the city out because unlike other cities San Diego has many very distinct parts to it and going from one section to another is almost like going to a whole other city. Plus we have a HUGE amount of protected park land in the county. National forests, state parks, country parks, game preserves, open space preserves and stuff like that which cover everything from beaches, to tidal lagoons, to the coastal plane, to the foothills, to the mountains, to the inland valleys, to the deserts.
According to the US Geological Survey San Diego county is the most ecologically diverse county in the US. We get 90 inches of rain per year in the Cuyamacas and less then 3 inches per year in some part of the Carrizo badlands and everything in between plus we have nearly half of southern California's remaining coastal wetlands and 1/3 of the remaining open grassland. This is a great place so make sure you get out and explore San Diego.
