Like I said in another thread that I am slowly coming around to a national health insurance program so long as it is not financed by high progressive taxation. I think everyone should be charged a flat rate to pay for it and that the insurance should provide for deductibles and incentives for preventative care, etc.

But, I call such things "welfare." This kind of program is OK so long as it doesn't cost too much and does not replace something the private sector can do better.

The socialism that I and most people on the right do not like is the kind where the state directly controls or owns businesses. At least according to my understanding of Hitler's fascism, he controlled German industry. So, in my book, the socialism and fascism amount to the same thing, lack of economic freedom and a planned economy. When you call the American right fascists, I think you misunderstand us because we favor a free market, not a planned market. Moreover, we do not favor making all institutions subordinate to the nation as would a fascist. We favor the opposite.

It is the Democrats in the United States who want to control industry. They are the fascists in my book.

Hitler left German industry largely in the hands of private capital until the very end of the war. Churchill placed all the industries under state control much sooner. Was Churchill a fascist?

State-owned businesses are rare in Europe, and are getting rarer. Europe is firmly capitalist, not socialist.

Yeah, I think he did cut a deal with the industrialists when he got into power to keep his hands off - at least for a while. But under his fascist "theory," every institution was subordinate to the nation and subject to its control.

As to Churchill (and Roosevelt) yes of course he was a fascist during the war. Even Stalin became a fascist. But everyone knew that this was necessary for the war effort and could accept it for a short time.

Actually, Stalin began attacking his neighbors before WWII, didn't he?

What material difference was their between Stalin's USSR and Hitler's Germany?
