Thread labeling suggestion Support Apolyton, buy Civilization: The Boardgame

In my opinion, the forum is getting a bit messy. Some people discussing are new features, some are trying to get the game to compile and/or run, some are fixing bugs, some want to organize the project, etc. How about we bring some order to chaos? Since we don't have seperate forums for each of these issues (there isn't really enough activity to justify that), I suggest we label every thread we start to indicate what kind of thread it is. A bit like we did with the democracy games for the various types of polls (for those who participated).

The categories I would suggest:

GENERAL: discussions that don't fall in any of the other categories
PROJECT: discussions regarding the Apolyton Project itself, organization, website, news, etc
DOCUMENT: documentation of the code, explanations on how (parts of) it work(s)
DESIGN: discussions on what the game should be like: special resources, research pacts, AI improvement, new SLIC features, etc
IMPLEMENT: discussions on implementing completely new features, as discussed in DESIGN
DEBUG: discussions on finding and fixing known obvious bugs (sometimes the line with DESIGN/IMPLEMENT might be a fine one, but DESIGN/IMPLEMENT should focus on new code, DEBUG on stuff that's already there, but broken)

Edit: adding a new category:
COMPILE:: discussions on to getting the source to compile on different compilers/platforms.

Of course, new categories can be introduced as the need for them arises.

I would gladly rename all current threads to fit such a policy, and correct any omissions/mistakes/changes/etc that may be required afterwards. Since most of us don't participate in all mentioned activities, it would be a lot easier to find the threads you're interested in.

How about it? Good idea, bad idea, feedback on implementation?

In my opinion it is a very good idea. Of course you should add this also to the FAQ then.

The idea is pretty good... it would make the forum easier to overview, if nothing else. Currently, though, I am reading all of the posts in this forum, and doing so to stay updated to the best of my knowledge.

It's great to see that the forum already has almost 2000 posts. Our daily activity is larger than that of RoN section, no less than that of Civ3-General... our post total has exceeded such forums as Alt Civs or even Civ3-Multiplaying...

It sounds like a very good idea.

Although I hope it doesn't get too "constitutional" like the CtP2DG, Locutus

At some point, and I'm not saying that we're anywhere close to that yet... (for one thing we don't have consistently working basic source code) we may need a separate forum for suggestions/ideas/feedback, to seperate it from the discussion of actual code.

I agree that we may in the future get to that point. And if we get there, I'm sure we'll get the forum as well, but only once we get there...

Of course these additional forums should be subforums.

Great idea, Locutus!

And I agree with Martin. They should be subforums.

Aside: Anyone heard from Pedrunn lately?

Very well, I'll start labeling threads then. If anyone disagrees with any of my decisions (some threads may be borderline), feel free to let me know.

Hmm, after having started to rename threads, I think there's a new category needed:

COMPILE: discussions on to getting the source to compile on different compilers/platforms.

Not a bad idea Locutus

Why not put "->" instead of ":" though?
":" is used quite often in thread titles and would seem preety strange with two ":" within the title. I might be wrong though, just a thought.

He had some really good mods and did a lot of work on them. I'm sure he'd be interested to know the source code has come out and perhaps he can help with some of the bug hunting.

Just before this thread hit the bottom:

Locutus you should add the labels to the FAQ. Of course to the first post.
