UK Release delayed? Got spare money?

Virgin and HMV stores in central London, and the Virgin website all have the UK release as 21 November, as of today.
Does anyone know if the release has been put back?

If not, has anyone seen a copy in London?

Full PM-box? Change here!

I'll be popping down to Game in Camden in a couple of hours to check it out, but if Virgin/HMV don't have it, I doubt the others will

Never mind, more time for the PTWDGs ... and for my Keshiks to go spoil Abe's day in my current SP Pangea breakathon.

So it looks like they can rush through the US pressings and distribution, but not manage to hit the later UK date - or bother to tell anyone about it. Hurrah.......

Suffering from ads?

I phoned the Manchester branch of Game on thursday afternoon to confirm they were getting it in on the 14th... and yes, they confirmed it would be on the selves. In fact, I was told it was already there and they promised to put aside a copy for me.

So I left work early on the Friday, added a few miles onto my trip to get to the store and lo and behold, was told no, actually they didn't have it and sorry for any trouble. Grrrrrrrrrrrr.......

As it happens, I'd persuaded my g/f to go to London this weekend for a party and was looking forward to marathon Civ session on my last free weekend for a month.

Lose 30 kilos (of popups)

I checked in at the Game store in East Kilbride ( near Glasgow ) and after a lot of tooing and froing they sent someone round the back to check because someone remembered they had recieved Civ3 in a shipment the day before.

He came back with what I assume to be Game's answer to Civ3 Gold - PTW and Civ3 shrink wrapped togethern in a box.

I explained that no, thank you, that wasn't what I was looking for and, yes, I was certain the release date was supposed to be the 14th.

I thought the whole 'games released on a Friday' syndrome was to ensure an equal distribution to all stores on the chosen date. It wouldn't be so bad if you didn't have to put up with the console gamers that work their looking at you as if you're an alien and saying "Civilization... for the PC?"

Suffering from ads?

bhah,

after pushing past the crowds of greasy 12 years olds in my local GAME store, they didn't have it. Although they did have it listed to be released yesterday and they did have the civ3 and PTW in the same box thing. Is that the gold edition thing that was supposed to be released on the same day as C3C?

When I ordered PTW from GAME online, it was delivered within 22 hours of ordering!! But the site has the 21st as the release date now.

Sometimes I wonder whether it'd be possible to get a load of copies of the game myself on the release date and distribute them by mail order.

Put an end to popups!

This is worrying.

The Atari website for Australia lists C3 as available there and in NZ from the 14th. My local NZ retailers still say the 18th, and it hasn't reached here yet from anything I can see, and no-one has yet posted saying they have the game.

BUT, the UK Atari website doesn't mention Conquests ANYWHERE. Not as released, not for release...

According to the cov3 news site, one of the Firaxians said that everywhere except Asia had C3C. What about NZ, Oz and the UK? Surely none of these are in Asia, particularly not the UK?

What in the blue hell is going on?

I went into Game on Oxford Street yesterday and saw a rack of Conquests boxes with stickers on saying something like "Out on Friday, pre-order now!" Naturally, this being Saturday, I assumed it meant the previous day, since I was under the impression that it had shipped on Thursday 14th. Imagine my annoyance when I tried to buy the thing and was told that it was indeed NEXT Friday, and for now they had only the boxes but nothing to go inside...

Well, in Belgium, The Freerecordshop website
has it for a Nov. 14th release , but the very
nice lady I spoke to yesterday at my local
Freerecordshop said it was out by the end of the
month.

as a sidenote, the Dutch Freerecordshop website
has it for a October 30th release.

To be fair, that was a guesstimate on her part,
judging from when most game titles come
in after their release date. (Her computer
showed a release of mid-november).

That's not gonna stop me from going down there
twice a week (and other shops) to see if
it's there yet.

In fact, I'm going in about an hour.

I have checked my Amazon.co.uk account, and they are still saying that the game will be despatched TODAY!! 18/11, but at the same time it clearly says that it has not been despatched.

The worst thing is that the UK web for Civ3 does not mention Conquests at all...

Sad, very sad.

Well, the continued delay clearly fits the 'history as cockup' model. But with time to fill, I thought I might as well start a 'history as conspiracy' theory.

The CIA are making us wait for Conquests in the UK. While Dubya is over here, it is far too inflammatory and subversive to give us access to a programme which shows how non-Democratic governments can prosper, and in which wars are openly fought for nothing more noble than securing oil resources.
So we'll have to wait until he's back in the plane before we can get our hands on it.

How about a mod to the diplomatic options, in which you can improve your standing with another civ by inviting them to your capital on a state visit.....but there's a chance your people will react to the guest by putting your capital into civil disorder, disrupting production, and vandalising your palace (which remains in that state on the Palace View screen until their next offer to improve it)?

More timefilling. Dubya and the Queen are getting on well because they've discovered how much they have in common; neither was elected to office, and they're each only there because of who thier father was.
