has something to do more with a virgin having a parasite that a deity had inserted into her finally expelled from her body in the presence of bovines.

That's the most ridiculous thing I've ever heard.

But I was under the impression that that happened in April.

of course it's the most ridiculous thing you've ever heard. that's the miracle of it all! that it actually happened?

i remember reading about a news report they found with the dead sea scrolls, detailing how a tiny, 9-pound man was found lodged in the reproductive tract of a 14 year old virgin. after incarcerating him, they executed him 33 years later for it.

Ok, first off -- pagans never celebrated the birth of Jesus Christ before he was born.

Secondly, I do appreciate some other aspects of Christmas, such as the Christmas tree tradition, and other such customs, that really have come from pagan cultures.

I'm a Christian, but as of yet, I have not found a congregation that I can feel welcome, and where I enjoy expressing my belief/faith.

I was raised in a Catholic family.

Well it's the Christians' holiday, at least we should be polite.

If not for JC it would be another day at work.

Well try Episcopalian then man! Just be aware that some parishes are just a weeeee bit miffed over the recent thing going on in New Hampshire. You might want to test the waters discretely before coming completely out, lest you wind up as part of the main exhibit in a Good Friday celebration. Hey! Have you ever thought of moving to New Hampshire?

Dr Strangelove, when I was back in eastern Iowa, I did try a local Episopalian church -- but, the priest there was not very friendly -- gave me a cold shoulder for whatever reason.

So, I did not go back there to join the congregation.

You know something -- the minute I express my reason for celebrating Christmas, you and Asher start blabbling about stuff that I already know, basically -- like that some of the customs we still have with Christmas, originated with pagan cultures.

You know, for a church that was founded by a serial fornicator and adulteror, as well as a king who murdered anyone who disagreed with him, they certainly have a lot of balls about talking about what is or isn't righteous.

No, not some of the customs, the whole, friggan holiday. There is nothing about Xmas that wasn't lifted from paganism, except Santa Claus. It is a pagan holiday, with a Christian veneer.

The celebration of Jesus Christ's birth was not taken from pagan cultures -- pagan cultures had their own form of celebration BEFORE Jesus Christ was ever born.

If you want to politicize the holidays, you can create another thread.

WRONG! You sanctimonius Iowan!

Jesus Christ is simply the Christian version of the Sun god, who is born/reborn every year on the Winter Solstace! That's only four days earlier. He dies, is reborn, and defeats darkness. Now who does that sound like?
