If you are looking at the screen shots I posted, you won't see the roads until I got a unit up there to see the tiles.

I was on a serious retreat with no time to scout the tiles being worked by Arnelos (and guarded by 20 units!!! :eek

I had 6 industrious workers with my stack. Supposedly, that completes a road in the jungle in 1 turn under despotism and I could have gotten through the jungle at 2 turns per tile (1 turn to build the road, the other turn to move the workers to the next unroaded tile). Unfortunately, I was in anarchy at the same time I was attempting to trudge through the jungle and it took a good bit longer than that with the reduced worker efficiency.

Screenshot of mine on the previous page showing my army in between his two cities displays the road, though it is difficult to notice.

Hi,
I had a close look at this page and tried to look at the other modem presented there. For all of them, I can click on "specifications" and get date about the firewall/router. Not for mine. So I switched to the global site (and not the UK one, you can do this at the top right) and I searched for my modem and clicked on specification. Now it works... but nothing about firewall/router... Does that mean I have none... And if yes, what's my problem then ?

Jeff, it doesn't appear that your DSL modem contains a router/firewall. And you've said that you have disabled the winXP firewall. Do you have any other software firewalls? Norton Internet Security/Norton Personal Firewall, McAfee Firewall, BlackIceDefender, ZoneAlarm, to name a few.

You can go here and test to see it your Civ related ports are open, it this fails and you don't seem have any other problems then you should phone your ISP and see if they have any issues.

First, I followed the test and here are the results : (I reproduce here the exact text of the scan)

does not repond to a TCP ping
does not repond to a NDP ping
Probing TCP ports with SYN packets
TCP probe finished
probing UDP ports for echoes
UDP prbe finished
Scan complete
Open TP port 139 was not seen
microsoft netbios check skipped
press result button.

Conclusion : Healthy setup! We could detect no interesting responses from any of the commomly probed TCP and UDP port. It would be difficlut for an attacker to know where to start without further information.

TCP all : filtered No response packet received
UDP all : filtered No response packet received

Ok, questions :

1. what do you think about that ?
2. In the booklet of C3C, there's a page telling which ports have to be open to join and host. I don't know where to go to see my own closed and open ports and open them...
3. When i try to join, I still get alway a 0 ping.
4. Nobody sees my game when I want to host
5. By asking my IP address several times on a web page I got different answer at different moments !
6. In my WIn XP, it says that my IP address is automaticaly defined...
7. the only programm I think could cause problem for Civ is my anti-virus (Antivir XP), that I deactivate usually when I want to play...

That is about all the problems\questions I have.

I'd like to try a game with you when you are available. We know that it works for you, so if a problem occurs... it should be because of me. What about next friday ?

Sure we can test your setup, you can find me in the C3C lobby most nights....I use GS Arcade to chat. There is always the possibility that Directx 9b is causing you problems, me and many others can't host with it and have reverted to DX 8.2 to host, and yes it works fine with C3C despite what the box says.

I think it would be ok for the matches between myself and MotownDennis and between Swissy and WhiteBandit to start. As for Game 3, I think statusperfect is on vacation, but I can certainly PM him both here and at MZO. I know nothing about Hodjay, though. We should PM him as well. If NEITHER is available to finish their match, we may just give Edgar Newt TWO free wins, granting him a free spot in Round III against the winner of Game 9

I did withdraw indeed. I reported it to Jeff and MarkG. I was having a 2 week vacation around the holidays and had hoped to play a few games in that period. Like Jeff I am facing connection probs as well. Because of the work load at the moment and therefore lacking time to solve the probs/ playing games I thought Jeff and I shouldn't hold everyone back and therefore retreated. I still do read the boards....

What's up for me now. Should I play against the winner of your match with Uber ? What do you think about this ? I'd start on round two but I don't see many other possibility (unless someone plays twice a round one game...)

Sorry, not much to help you with there unless we can find a replacement for the various no-shows in this tournament. If you're looking for other competition, I hear that the ladder is something you can check out. Refer to Fried-Psitalon if you're interested in that, as I honestly don't know all that much about it.
