Well, not actually....
The strenght of modern airforces is based primarily in the ability to see and shoot first, in which case radar systems are the most important weapon system in the air.Actual airframes matter somewhat less. A mig 21 with a top notch radar system attached and with the support of some AWAS type aircraft would easily shoot down a F-15 with a poor quality radar and no AWACS support, simply becuase the one pilot saw the enemy first, fired a missile from 30-40 miles away, and was done.
The US wins becuase of its electronic edge and support craft, not becuase US ariframes are any better- in fact, a Su-27 has immense power, and as an aircraft is as good, if not better than an F-15. BUt to win a fight, it is the elctronic package and a trained pilot capable of using it) that wins fights.

No seriously FAF is of excellent quality. The airforce itself sucks major hairy butts, just too few planes and lack of supporting systems. But, the pilots ARE good, they were and still are. You can read that FAF history on the internet in many places.. we still have most aces and only one war  . Lost only what? 20 or less planes in many years of combat, and they took down few hundred or more planes. Combined drops with AA and planes were close to 1200 planes during the whole war (including continuation war). We had more planes when the war was over than when it started. Pilots flew like full hours all the time, planes were in the air at all times on missions. Not too much time for bombings either, mostly doing fights. One of the most feared pilots whose name I forgot took almost every time on 5 planes and still won. He still lives today.. only few pilots actually died. FAF created one of the more modern tactics anyway, I don't know what you call it in english but it's the top down combat meaning you attack a fleet with fre planes, few going straight on them and few on the top raining down on the fleet, usually ending in victory. Other tactics as well.
Naturally these days for example Russian planes are far more better aviation wise than hour little f-18:s though. But the pilot quality has survived every single review I ever read and has been regarded as of the highest quality.
BUt it's like this. Conscript army and you have to go. So why not try to be a pilot? At least that's pretty cool. So, only few ever get there, so there's a lot of material to choose from. If we had 1000 planes, the quality would drop significantly.
Also one of the funny war details is that most cadets never got to fly the missions, because the ones who started it didn't die away and give a chance to the eager new blood.
Ok, enough about FAF. It doesn't matter. You can throw in supermen, but if you have less than 100 planes, it's a joke.
So there. I go to sleep now. Dream about flying and bombing the crap out of baddies.
