Before I forget and the next night passes... Support Apolyton, pre-order Civilization IV

I was { } that frickin' close to lucid dreaming, stupid ****ing self!!!!!! I read a few websites that give tips on how to get into a lucid dream state and the main one is to realise that you are in a dream by noticing something is how it shouldnt be like "forcing yourself to know that the pink elephant doesnt belong". And I did it, I forced myself to realise that I was in the house that I grew up in not in my current home, I dont know if I woke up or if I was in a lucid dream state for a few seconds but as soon as I noticed it my dream turned to black with grainy white outline to everything, and I was back in a normal state of dreaming. What makes it (worse/better/you be the judge) was that it was one of those dreams that Diss envies me for having so often.

oh well hopefully I'll get the hang of it eventually.

Actually, I've manipulated my dreams quite a few times. It makes for a VERY enjoyable sleep session! The only pointers I can give to to train your subconscious self to be on the look out for the tell-tail signs (ie, things or events that really don't make sense and to realize this but not to the point that it will force yourself to wake up. I guess you can relate it to "playing along" with the events as they happen and then decide that your going to jump and start flying around to the room. If this happends, then you know you're in a lucid dream.

For example an a number of my dreams I end up flying around (Yes, I am actually afraid of heights), but if you know you're in control, you can control the dream experience itself....but I digress...any how, when I'm flying, my "common sense" starts telling me this it is not possilble and I start to fall. Here is were you need to take control and force yourself that it is possilble because you believe it to be possible....and all of the sudden, your gaining altitude and control again.

Yes, it does take practice, but the pay off is a very exciting (and memerable) dream sequence where you can actualy control your environment!

I find that if I read a few chapters of a book before actually going to sleep (I read fantasy/science fiction - if you couldn't tell from my dream experiences), this will settle your mind for going into a lucid dream state. After you've perfected the ability to realize that you are indeed dreaming it does get easier to recognizing future dreams.

I hope this helps and good luck in your lucid dream world.

Suffering from ads?

Wait a minute!!!

I can't believe that no other Apolytoners but Space and I have had/expreicenced a lucid dream before....

Could it be that we are just unique people?

In another words: *Bump*

Come on Apolytoners! Tell us about your lucid dreams and how you have or have not controlled them. For some reason, I cannot believe that we are minority in the abilty of controlling one's dreams.

Hmmmm I never seem able to remember my dreams. In fact once I fall asleep next thing I'm waking up. Nothing in between at all. Outta curiousity am I still dreaming even though I can't actually remember anything?

Flip, actually yes, you do. But I guess you are just a deeper type of sleeper. Everyone dreams. But because your conscious mind doesn't remember your dream sequence points to you having a deeper sleep cycle. Since you are a deep sleeper, lucid dreams are probably few and far between....but I would bet that you've had lucid dreams in the past.

I have lucid dreams often. It's funny how I decide not to screw hot chicks, but fly. I always fly.
I also remember most of my dreams. I remember few dreams every morning. I always wake up from a dream and remember it vividly.
I also get sleep paralysis sometimes.

I often wake up in them, but it's weird - I'm still in a dream state, and as soon as I close my eyes, the dream reappears. When I open them, I just see my room.

skywalker, that happens to me too. Waking up, not exactly opening eyes but being awake and conscious of the enviroment, and then just 'ok back to sleep then, it was nice' and then it continues. The only things that I can't continue are sexual dreams. It's weird, everytime I'm starting to wake up and I was just making out with a hot chick, and I try to continue, I seem unable to and them I'm 'damn it!'

Shogun, all that it takes is a little practice. Dreams will give you signs that it is a dream - what you need to do is to recognise these signs and take control.

Shogun Gunner, I wish you luck. I've read few websites about lucid dreaming too, but I didn't recognize the triggers. I just automatically realize myself that 'Ok this is a dream'.. it's not very conscious choice. Then I just do my testing 'ok I am able to fly' and then I just start rising slowly. Sometimes it's difficult, and I try real hard to fly but nothing happens... but then I just think 'it's not even difficult, it's up to me and ok let's just start flying!' and then it happens the latest and it's all good and fun.

Wittlich, true.. hey maybe I just figured out my trigger.. it's when I'm having a kind of bad dream, or just normal dream, but I tend to think at one point 'great, what next? I bet there's a bear after me soon, and because I now think this, it actually will be there soon'. And then it appears to be chacing me or whatever. That's when I realize that I'm able to imagine things and they become reality. That's when the fun starts.

Yes, this has happend to me a few times. I believe that even though your subconsciousness was begining to surface (and hense realizing that your comfortably in your bed), you were not actually fully awake. And when you drifted off again, you continued your dream.

With sexual dreams, it's harder to control since your subconscious sexual drive kicks in and this is harder (pardon the pun) for the truely "restfull" sleep to set in - like you experienced the first time.

It isn't drifting off. It is, I open my eyes, I see my room. I close them and I'm in the dream. I open them, I'm back in my room. I'm completely in control of my body.

skywalker, that I can't do. If I make the decision to open my eyes, then it's gone. I close my eyes and might have a small taste of the dream, but I'm unable to capture it again. It fades away and is harder and harder to remember. Can't get any details.. and then I just give up.

There's another interesting and possibly related thing that happened to me recently. I couldn't sleep, and I was just thinking about thing in bed, to try and go to sleep. This continued for about six or seven hours (before I got sleep medicine and actually fell asleep), and I thrashed about a bit, getting tangled in the comforter, but I realized later that I'd almost been in a trance, and I'd actually rested about as much as I did sleeping. It was like an awake-dream.

Sky, i would think that that's a good example of a fever-reinforced deamstate, and though it's almost (as far as I know) impossible to control - it's still a form of a restfull speep-cycle, but to to make it a lucid dream would be vertualy impossible.

JohnT, Oh that's another loop I get into! When I have a bad dream and realize it just a dream, I kind of think 'well this nightmare is perfect if I can't wake up now'. And then I try to wake up, and it just doesn't work! But soon after that I'm doing fun stuff and not having a nightmare so it's all good.

I hate having nightmares, they start then I just tell myself "**** that", wake up for a second, and then back to sleep I go. I rarely have a full nightmare, its too bad though because I like the adrenaline rush I get from them.

I prefer to sit back and enjoy the show. However, last night's dream was ****ing annoying. I was a defense attorney for a murder suspect. For some stupid reason my cocounsel wanted the defendant to take the stand and for me to question her. I told them that we didn't have a case theory. There weren't even any opening statements for me to work with. They looked confused. So I got up and asked my first question, "Please state your name for the court." The defendent, who was a Chinese student at my school, responded with, "Yes."

I'm glad I taught my last classes for the semester today.

Not really. It's like "this isn't happening. This is happening istead."

Once I had a dream where a hot babe and I were trapped inside a haunted house. I knew that we had to get out before sunset, or something really bad is going to happen. However, the front door was blocked and there were no windows, and the sun was setting quickly. Suddenly I realised that, "If I can't go through the door, I can go through a wall instead."

So I just bashed a great big hole in a wall, and carried the babe out of the house, into the sunset (corny, I know ).

i don't think i've ever consiously controlled a dream, though i have many. could be interesting to try.

any tips? how far can you stretch it? can you introduce new people into the dream, and completely change it? i don't often dream of my father, and when i do it's usually not a good dream. do you think it's possible to either change a dream with him in it, or introduce him into another dream?

i'm going to google a bit.

Ummmm yeah I might have. Is lucid dreaming defined as in controling your dreams because I've never been able to control my dreams at all, of course I've never tried.

The earliest dream I can remember is from many years ago. I think something like 6 or so years. I was on a kinda barge thing leaning on the railing watching the statue of liberty go past for some reason. Everything was in that drab colour of military styles and guess what I was a WWII styles uniform and there was a tank that I could see in the middle of the barge. Very weird . Musta been a sleep following a WWII movie or something.
