2004 predictions Lose 30 kilos (of popups)

Well, it's time to make predictions about 2004 and then mercifully forget about them when they go spectacularily wrong.

Israelis and Palestinians will continue to kill each other.

EU will engage in a lot of bureaucratic ****ery and infighting and won't get anything done.

Some far-right group will, once again, do unexpectedly well in an European election. The European press gabbles and paints Hitlers on the wall.

2004 will prove that there's no limit to Michael Jackson's crazy. When the trial really gets underway the tabloids will be having multiple orgasms each day.

Big-time celebrity deaths will continue. I peg Reagan and the Pope.

No new Bushfire wars, at least this year. Plenty of rhetoric about Syria, Iran and North Korea, but no particular action.

In the end, the moderate Democrats unite and manage to prevent Dean from taking the nomination. Genl. Clark will take the nomination and go on to lose to Bush by 5-8 points. Everybody starts getting ready for 2008, where the GOP will have an open primary and the Dems prepare for the all-time battle of titans - Hillary vs. Gore vs. Dean, who still has his supporter networks going in one form or the other.

2004 will be a mixed year for music - there's going to be a plenty of brilliant under-the-radar stuff, but mainstream music will continue to be complete crap. BRITNAYpop rules the day, and rap metal and pop-punk will ground on with vengeance in the teen male demographic. However, the signs will start showing up - 2005 will change it all.

There'll be technical inventions and stuff like that, but nothing really life-changing.

10 new countries will join the European Union

Now seriously,

-Bush is going to win the elections
-Some conservative (or very conservative) guy, even by Church's standards, is going to be elected as the new pope.
-The conservative party will win the Spanish elections but will be unable to form a goverment.
-The US army will continue in Iraq.

The Athens Olympics will get canceled due to unfortunate circumstances, namely that the only things finished on time will be a new bus lane leading from the airport to where the main stadium was supposed to be, one basketball court and a couple of hot dog stands.

Jacques Rogge announces that Greece will host again "no sooner than 2736", but at the same time declares Athens 2004 to be "the best nearly held Games ever".

winston

btw did anyone see the pictures near the end of last year (2003) in the news of the world, showing the new stadium. apparently they had to bribe some security guard to let them in to take photos (and we all know how funny the greeks are about that of sort of thing ) because the greek authorities don't want people seeing what's been done so far.

considering what's been built, the attitude of the authorities is not altogether suprising...

bah just jealous cause 5 million denmark never got them while 10 million greece got them alright being the smallest country ever to get them (and twice). actually i couldnt care less about them but seeing all the jealousy turning green makes my day and besides, we are last minute people, everything will be in order at the LAST MINUTE. thats how we do business.
some people dont know that about us, whereas they should, and get panicked. dont worry the poor albanians immigrants are working their butts off for them for minimum pay...

Greece Says It's Met '03 Goals for Games
Wed Dec 31, 7:31 AM ET Add Sports - Reuters to My Yahoo!

ATHENS (Reuters) - Greece has completed all the work planned for this year ahead of the 2004 Olympic Games (news - web sites), with some projects ahead of schedule, the country's top Olympics official said on Wednesday.

Reuters Photo

Reuters
Slideshow: 2004 Olympics

"We succeeded with intensive efforts and co-ordinated and substantial work to complete 100 percent of our program for 2003," Culture Minister Evangelos Venizelos told daily newspaper Naftemboriki.

"In some cases we exceeded 100 percent by speeding up projects and our actions," he added.

International Olympic Committee (news - web sites) (IOC) President Jacques Rogge said on Tuesday the IOC was confident preparations were on course, even though organizers in Athens would still face "tough days" in the eight months leading up to the Games.

Greece, which fell badly behind in its preparations three years ago, has increased efforts to make up for lost time, earning praise from top Olympics officials.

IOC inspectors, however, have repeatedly warned that timetables remained tight and that organizers needed to keep up the momentum.

now those guys are funny. they worry tooooo much. we have it uneder control. they need to relax a little bit. LAST MINUTE people, and its more fun that way

All the obvious ones (4 more years of hell, EU infighting, etc.) have already been used.

1) A meteor will crash into the planet and kick up an unstoppable dust storm that blocks out the sun planetwide. No human attempt can help the situation, and plants start to die. Within a few months, as the dust starts to rain back to earth, most plants are dead, and the layer of dust they're getting with each rain makes them more dead. Animals dependent upon those plants die, and then humanity finally starves to death.

if general clark wins, he'll destroy Bushy... but I think dean will get the nod.

Dean will be forgotten by 2008... Gore is already out of the picture, plus he ENDORSED dean, he's not going to run against him. Hillary will be the hands down winner of the nomiation in 2008. And she will win the presidency, ushering in a 1000 years of darkness.

predictions:

1. Osama bin Laden is mysteriously captured shortly before presidential elections

2. "economy" picks up (rich corporations do well, dow goes up) while millions of americans get poorer, lose their jobs, and settle for lower paying, more expendable jobs. But, because the media keeps telling them the ECONOMY IS GOOD, they still ignorantly vote Bush.

3. 2004 election is close no matter who is the nomination... Dem's cry foul again... ***** and moan for 4 more years

4. Reagan dies, Repukes try to get him put on Mount Rushmore

5. Pope dies, new pope lobbies for more lax laws against man-boy sex.

6. Sava doesn't survive 2004. Assuming I don't win the lottery, find a dream job, or fall in love with a GORGEOUS female... I take my own life before the year's end. Curiousity about the 2004 elections might keep me around long enough. When I was 15, I vowed I would commit suicide at 24 if my life sucked... and it does

I second that one.

I think Dean has a better chance than people think. For the last few elections the Democratic candidate has been almost apologetic about being a liberal. Dean isn't apologetic about anything and won't put himself on the back foot for a start by trying to be middle of the road.

And if he gets the nomination, he will destroy Bush in the debates. He simply has too much ammunition and he'll use it.

Just like Gore was gonna destroy Bush? The worse thing going for the dems is their arrogent attidute against Bush. Gore should have destroyed Bush but his ego shown through. And Dean has an ego far bigger than the little state that he came from. Clinton had an ego too, but he was smart enough to hide

you are joking, right? Clinton was extremely open with his MONSTEROUS ego.

Plus, I think Dean could beat Bush in debates... only because we've had years to study what Bush says. Gore was a pud... I never though he could beat Bush in a debate. And he let the media walk all over him.

People still think Gore said "I invented the internet"...
