I don't believe this is true. Look at the McCain campaign last time. He's a lot like Dean, appeals to independents who dislike the mainstream party apparatus. IIRC McCain failed because the primary system shut out independent voters in key states. But if he had been the Republican nominee, he would have destroyed Gore.

Characterizing Dean as some left wing extremist isn't going to work. The only thing he is really left about is the war. He's a fiscal conservative and budget balancer. And clearly George Bush is not in a position to accuse anyone else of being fiscally irresponsible.

Depending on what happens with terrorism, it could be an interesting year.

I've been trying to make up political predictions but I can only come up with platitudes. So I'll skip straight onto the music.

Lat year's big chart news item, a US top ten consisting entirely of black musicians, will be repeated at least twice during the year, partially due to the viewing figure failure of next year's American Idol competition. In black music the biggest commercial dissapointment will be Irv Gotti's "The Inc" whose run of hits dry up. The new Eminem album is a success, although not matching his previous achievements musically or commercially.

In contrast, Sean Paul's attempt at reaching out to the western audience will bomb, except in continental europe. After the new T.O.K album reaches the top 5 of the US album charts the Jamiacan wave slowly starts to ebb out commercially and in some ways musically, after the connection between jamaica and the most popular artists is severed. Donovan "Vendetta" Bennet will produce the summer's biggest riddim, which will produce at least one minor 2005 hit in the UK. New underground things are stirring on the islands though, and a brief trend towards using Soca riddims also appears.

Screw has a minor commercial breakthrough in the US and gets a certain amount of mainstream media attention. The year's unexpected summer novelty hit is from Brazil or Detroit.

A scene appears in the summer combining last year's punkfunk with timbaland-style rhythmic eccentricity, but never achieves commercial success. There's a brief west-coast punk revival.

In the UK several fair-to-middling rap albums are released as the majors are scouring for the "next Dizzee Rascal". Miss Dynamite releases a Garage album which is quite bland, getting her labelled a "spent force".

The Talking Heads do a reunion tour.

Here's what DRoseDARs said:

2003 Spring - US/UK war with Iraq; Saddam disappears...in a pile of rubble; Low-casuallity but devastating airwar triggers massive desertion of Iraqi military; groundwar in Baghdad costs several thousand lives on both sides plus civilians; Puppet government established until opposition parties are forced to accept US terms in 2005

Plus, I think Dean could beat Bush in debates... only because we've had years to study what Bush says. Gore was a pud... I never though he could beat Bush in a debate. And he let the media walk all over him.

People still think Gore said "I invented the internet"...

As much as I disliked Clinton, I still say he used his ego to his advantage. So much so that even though I did hate most things Clinton done, It was hard to not like him when you met him. I met him back when he was governor. And the little bastard did have a charming side to him.

If Dean wins the nomination my vote for Bush will be more of a vote against Dean, pretty much like I was voting against Gore.

If you dumbass Dems would put someone good up there, I just might vote for them. But the way it is going, it will be another vote cast for Bush..

Calgary '88 was the first Winter Olympics ever to turn a profit. All of the successive ones are successful by copying how we did it.

Athens Olympic Volleyball tournament will be targeted by terrorists (and that will give me a reason not to hate the fact I've not been able to get the damn tickets considering those damn greeks gave the majority of tickets to Germany and England which couldn't give a damn about it, while countries where Volleyball is a national sport (Serbia, Italy, Netherlands) aren't considered profitable

And I hope they put some very naughty goldfish or something like that in the waterpolo swimming pool for the same reason

New England Patriots will win the Superbowl this year. Superbowl is always won by thug teams, and they are the ultimate thug team this year.

Patriots winning Superbowl doesn't bode well for stock market. If an AFC team does win, it should really be the Broncos.

Lord Merciless, the voices in my head says you're generally on the right track but eventually wrong. New England Patriots will indeed lose the Superbowl thingy they'll surely qualify for and I'll be right here afterwards going "I told you so"

Olympics in countries smaller than greece:

Summer:
Stockholm 1912
Antwerp 1920 (okay, about the same size)
Helsinki 1952

Winter:
St. Moritz 1928
St Moritz 1948
Oslo 1952
Innsbruck 1964
Innsbruck 1976
Lillehammer 1994

You could also arguably include Sarajevo 1984 in that list.
