Trade Pacts And Research Pacts Got spare money?

I remember reading somewher that research pacts have a bug is there a thread about this. If not can someone that knows enlighten me on the subject?

Also can someone tell me the benefits of a trade pact and the drawbacks of them?

The research pact thing isn't so much a bug as a design issue. There's a couple of threads about it:

I haven't had, or looked at, a trade pact for so long that I can't really remember anything about them.

I don't recall the benefits of a trade pact either, a look into the source code could help.
