As i am currently away i must ask fairline to confirm this. |
Trust me on this one - the cities on these islands are not labelled as objective cities. That's why I was initially confused about Hannibal's objectives to win the scenario.
It's an oversight anyone can make.
Even so, I am surprised by the total polish of this scenario as an initial release.

High_Flyer is correct: Aleria on Corsica and Olbia and Caralis on Sardinia are not objective cities. |
It's easy enough to correct - I just went into Cheat mode and made those three cities as objective cities (bringing the total objectives from 16 to 19).
In addition I added three to the numbers needed for each level of victory.
For example: For a Decisive Victory I added 3 to the number required so that it will require 15 objectives rather than 12 for a DV.

Ok finished the update.
Will publish it before the weekend hopefully.
There are MAJOR gameplay changes.
1.Added a supply route to Spain(i.e supply train unit are created in Iberia) and removed one from Africa.
2.The Cannae legions make their reappearance a few years after the unfortunate battle.
3. Added another minor tech tree to the Romans.
4.The sun tzu wonder has been given to the Romans.
5.Scipio and his legions now make a direct dash for Carthago Nova instead of supposedly smashing their way through from Tarraco(they never even reached Carthagena in the previous version playtests).
6.Afte Capua is taken the Romans become ultra aggresive.
6.New corrected gfx for units(lithobolos) and techs.
7.Added Advice.txt, some missing civilopaedia entries and corrected more spelling errors.
8.Created html and powerpoint files.
some other stuff too.

Sure... I haven't done any thorough checking, but at least it starts up correctly (the straight conversion crashed)... And the "Renaissance-bug" won't happen, because the scenario doesn't use the Invention tech.
I left out the city.txt, describe.txt, events.txt, pedia.txt, second punic war.txt, title.gif and all the documentation and sounds, because those files haven't changed (you'll have to copy them yourself).
And for anyone doing conversions themselves... I had to do some extra changes to the units.bmp (CivConverter misplaces the unit graphics), terrain1.bmp (CivConverter doesn't handle the 3 terrain graphics well, and more importantly, ToT does NOT like transparent terrain!) and labels.txt.

A bit more legal than Palaiologos' suggestion...
Angelo Scotto also made MGEConverter, which converts MGE scenarios to FW:

So effectively any major "ambuss" the Romans fall in could be the player's version of trasimene. |
I can live with that.

Forgot about that...

Try with Ebusus, latin name for the old Carthaginian colony today known as Ibiza |
But the city is located on Mallorca, so that'd be a little odd... How about Maiorica or Balearis Maior? Both are Latin names for Mallorca, obviously... Or you could use fairline's suggestion.
Or perhaps you can move the city to Menorca and name it Mago. That city was actually named after the general Mago Barca... But it wasn't founded until 206 BC, it seems.

(indeed 15-bit)
quote: A question for you: the MGE method of dictating civ colour through cities.bmp doesn't seem to apply to the ToT civ colours displayed on the unit health bar. Are these hard coded, or if not how do I change them? |
The coloured bars above the flag determine the civ colours (I guess you knew that). But, the shades used on the unit health bar are indeed hard-coded, well, sort of. The lighter shade is based on the bottom colour bar, but with the RGB values all halved, the darker shade has the RGB values quartered.

The correct latin name is "Insulae Balearis", I think. |
I think you're right... Baleares (without the insulae) is also correct, I think.

OK, thanks for that info Were the ToT graphics team drunk when they came up with this and other beauties (like the apalling sprites)?
quote: You can dump the oatmealed civ color from the unit key and use a sprite mask instead. 'Course you'd have to bite the bullet and make sprites via SpriteGen. The utility works well |
Indeed it does work well - I've had a play with it already when I replaced the tank in EA with a newer version. The mask feature could also prove very useful with the colouring of generic units, with either civ-coloured clothes or shields perhaps.
This is a good idea Boco I just need this final touch to complete the graphics conversion of Hannibal for ToT. I've replaced the terrain with you-know-who's fantastic ToT stuff, and done a few unit gfx and resource tweaks. If I get the go ahead to officially use the terrain I'll post the conversion here.
Trouble is, there is now a newer version of MGE Hannibal with additional events and units, and I'm buggered if I can use Angelo Scotto's ToT converter now that I'm on XP. Did he ever release a version with a GUI as my PC doesn't seem to do DOS?
