Thessalonica stays put!
The capital at the time was Demetrias!
And my uni town is Larissa in Thessaly...

As for Corsica and Sardinia i am certain they have the objective status-there is no way we could have made so serious a mistake.
As i am currently away i must ask fairline to confirm this.

Trust me on this one - the cities on these islands are not labelled as objective cities. That's why I was initially confused about Hannibal's objectives to win the scenario.

It's an oversight anyone can make.

Even so, I am surprised by the total polish of this scenario as an initial release.

It's easy enough to correct - I just went into Cheat mode and made those three cities as objective cities (bringing the total objectives from 16 to 19).

In addition I added three to the numbers needed for each level of victory.

For example: For a Decisive Victory I added 3 to the number required so that it will require 15 objectives rather than 12 for a DV.

Ok dudes just got back from uni and started working on this one.

Although more of a patch than a new version next release will include:

1.Fixed objective cities(thanks High flyer)
2.Extended readme
3.Advice txt
4.Propably a new title screen courtesy of Sarsstock
5.Multiplayer version
6.Minor event and gameplay tweaks. BTW i have managed to salvage an event slot. Anybody got an idea how could i utilise it?

Thing is that only No1 fix is of any importance.

Avatar Enlargement: We've got the solution

Thanks dude.

Exams period?I knew i'd forgotten something....

The whole thing started as a sideshow of the "Vae Victis" scenario(you know, the Roman empire one) but evolved into a time consuming project that really drew me into. I did the research last summer and worked on it for months afterwards. The civilopaedia especially proved a Golgotha(sp?). Because of my "friendly" relation with Fairline(he was my bit_ch in jail) i asked him for a few units, he got interest and joined in.

BTW any gameplay comments Timo would be truly appreciated at this junction. No matter what the "patch" will be released monday at the latest.

Suffering from ads?

Ok finished the update.
Will publish it before the weekend hopefully.

There are MAJOR gameplay changes.

1.Added a supply route to Spain(i.e supply train unit are created in Iberia) and removed one from Africa.
2.The Cannae legions make their reappearance a few years after the unfortunate battle.
3. Added another minor tech tree to the Romans.
4.The sun tzu wonder has been given to the Romans.
5.Scipio and his legions now make a direct dash for Carthago Nova instead of supposedly smashing their way through from Tarraco(they never even reached Carthagena in the previous version playtests).
6.Afte Capua is taken the Romans become ultra aggresive.
6.New corrected gfx for units(lithobolos) and techs.
7.Added Advice.txt, some missing civilopaedia entries and corrected more spelling errors.
8.Created html and powerpoint files.

some other stuff too.

Didn't see this before either...

Two little notes... Can't you give the Balearic Isles a Latin name? I couldn't really find anything on cities of the era (only this site: http://www.magellannarfe.com/virtua...pania/baleares/), but perhaps "Insulae Baleares" will do.

Then again, I'd want Roman names for all cities, so Roma instead of Rome etc. So that's kinda just a matter of taste...

And the second note, couldn't you by any chance incorporate (the battle of) Lacus Trasimenus in there somewhere?

I converted it to ToT, by the way...

Sure... I haven't done any thorough checking, but at least it starts up correctly (the straight conversion crashed)... And the "Renaissance-bug" won't happen, because the scenario doesn't use the Invention tech.

I left out the city.txt, describe.txt, events.txt, pedia.txt, second punic war.txt, title.gif and all the documentation and sounds, because those files haven't changed (you'll have to copy them yourself).

And for anyone doing conversions themselves... I had to do some extra changes to the units.bmp (CivConverter misplaces the unit graphics), terrain1.bmp (CivConverter doesn't handle the 3 terrain graphics well, and more importantly, ToT does NOT like transparent terrain!) and labels.txt.

Got spare money?

@Mercator
Sorry man couldn't have lake trasimene in. It is quite hard to have pitched battles simulated in the flow of a civ2 game.I mean Trebia is in by having Roman forces appearing in the Po valley(the only land entrance to Italy) to engage Hannibal. Cannae is in by making Romans appear after Cannae's granary is captured.
But trasimene was an ambuss staged by Hanni to the Roman troops trailing him. There was no city "trasimene" or something to trigger an event. So i came up with the "fields" terrain tile that worsens the defence of units standing in it as they are "ambussed".

So effectively any major "ambuss" the Romans fall in could be the player's version of trasimene.

As for the Roman names fairline burst my balls for the same thing. I generally prefer the most commonly used name for the cities so as to be easily identifiable. So there is Rome, Carthage but also Carthago Nova, Emporiae etc. Needless to say that Greek names(Taras-Tarentum, Neapolis-Naples) are preffered to any others.

In any case its easy enough to change. Will rename to insulae baleares though-sounds more classy.

Or perhaps Ins. Baleares?

Mercator: Thanks for that conversion - it looks a lot better with 15(?)-bit terrain BTW

A question for you: the MGE method of dictating civ colour through cities.bmp doesn't seem to apply to the ToT civ colours displayed on the unit health bar. Are these hard coded, or if not how do I change them?

The correct latin name is "Insulae Balearis", I think.

Extracted from "Laterculus Pelemii Silvi", a 4th Century administrative document:
"IV. Nomina Provinciarum....in Hispania VII
Prima: Tarraconensis
Secunda: Carthaginiensis
Tertia: Baetica
Quarta: Lusitania, in quia est Emerita
Quinta: Gallaecia
Sexta: Insulae Balearis

A bit more legal than Palaiologos' suggestion...
Angelo Scotto also made MGEConverter, which converts MGE scenarios to FW:

Forgot about that...

But the city is located on Mallorca, so that'd be a little odd... How about Maiorica or Balearis Maior? Both are Latin names for Mallorca, obviously... Or you could use fairline's suggestion.

Or perhaps you can move the city to Menorca and name it Mago. That city was actually named after the general Mago Barca... But it wasn't founded until 206 BC, it seems.

The coloured bars above the flag determine the civ colours (I guess you knew that). But, the shades used on the unit health bar are indeed hard-coded, well, sort of. The lighter shade is based on the bottom colour bar, but with the RGB values all halved, the darker shade has the RGB values quartered.

You can dump the oatmealed civ color from the unit key and use a sprite mask instead. 'Course you'd have to bite the bullet and make sprites via SpriteGen. The utility works well , but there's a lot of file generation and copying involved. If you're interested, drop me a line.

OK, thanks for that info Were the ToT graphics team drunk when they came up with this and other beauties (like the apalling sprites)?

Indeed it does work well - I've had a play with it already when I replaced the tank in EA with a newer version. The mask feature could also prove very useful with the colouring of generic units, with either civ-coloured clothes or shields perhaps.

This is a good idea Boco I just need this final touch to complete the graphics conversion of Hannibal for ToT. I've replaced the terrain with you-know-who's fantastic ToT stuff, and done a few unit gfx and resource tweaks. If I get the go ahead to officially use the terrain I'll post the conversion here.

Trouble is, there is now a newer version of MGE Hannibal with additional events and units, and I'm buggered if I can use Angelo Scotto's ToT converter now that I'm on XP. Did he ever release a version with a GUI as my PC doesn't seem to do DOS?

Doesn't it work at all, or haven't you figured out how to give it command-line arguments? In case of the latter, you could try the Run... item on the Start menu (typing the full filepath to civconverter followed by the full path to the scenario file).

Or simply drag 'n' drop the scenario file onto CivConveter. That somehow doesn't want to work on my computer though (Win98), which might be a problem with long filenames/directories.

That looks like a text file error (probably rules.txt). Happy debugging!

You can temporarily move/rename the rules.txt to see if you still get the error. If you don't, the rules are the problem, otherwise you'll have to repeat this process for the other files... By this method you can find out which files are causing the problems.

I think those error numbers mean something. They refer to which @ seciton in the rules.txt it is, the line number in that section and the position of the value in that line, I believe.

Why? Mix and match English and Latin looks half-baked. And while your at it, we should have Roma and Carthago

@Varwnos: some MGE scenarios can't be converted to FW as their events file sizes are too big. Try running it without the events to see if this is the case (just remove from the folder) after putting the scenario file through the converter. If it works, try starting with the events file, removing 1 or 2 events at a time to see if it'll run. If so, you'll have to decide which events you can live without!
