Not Heroes of Might Magic, but your getting a lot warmer.

This was based on a splinter series/world from a much more well known and much more used (for game inspiration) medieval fantasy franchise.

You started with a provence and tried to control or conquer other provences through military might, political might, or magical power. And you use a combination of all three.

I thought that at first too, but AD+D intrigues?

I can't think of any intrigue-based fantasy books. The Magician series was a bit like that I suppose... I don't remember Betrayal at Krondor being strategy though.

Nope none of those, it wasn't a very well known or popular offshoot. Which I thought sad because I actually liked the political themes coming into play.

I think it was one of TSR's last ditch efforts to save itself before selling out to WotC.

Collected Clues:

This game was loosely aligned with a whole bunch of games based on a theme, but this had a unique take on the theme.

It had three distictive playstyles, that is it was for all pratical purposes three different games and you play them individually or together (full game).

and

It had an rpg element, a strategic conquest element, and a tactical combat element. They didn't flow together well but I like the game. Course I had read all the books on the theme that the game was based on.

and

Its medieval in theme, with politics and intrigue weighing behind most of the plots and gameplay for both the books and the game.

Seeing as the driving concept was in someways based on the concept of Divine Right knowing your pedigree or bloodline was pretty important.

I played it on the PC, might have been available on other platforms though. Not sure when it was released. Even though I was interested in this particular world I missed the software release.

I saw the game at a friend of mine's house and he let me borrow it to play. Like I said, this world came out of TSR just as they were going under, right before they got gobbled up by WotC. Not much came out for it, I believe only 4-5 novels were written on this world and this is the only computer game I have ever seen for it.

Although, based on how they titled it, it would appear they planned on making sequel games.

Yeah, I really enjoyed it myself. I'm kinda sad the whole Birthright franchise didn't get a chance to get off the ground that much.

I used to always start out as the little merchantile province of Endier because that was in the first Birthright novel I read.

I used to play the nation in the bottom-right corner (can't remember the name of the nation) and go conquering, with the Spider realm in my path.

Okay, the next game.......


Proudly presented by one of the most successful game companies ever, this game is one of a long line of war-games published by them. Released in 1993 most predominately on the PC and played mostly in 2-player hotseat mode. Still regarded as one of the best hot-seat strategy games ever.

never even heard of the last game - gordon's alliance, must have been doing something else, it looks interesting a first/third person perspective kinda action thing but with i guess some role play/strat as well? I googled it and came up with some screen shots.......
