The only futuristic adventure games I can readily think of are the Space Quest series and Beneath a Steel Sky, neither of which this is.

Avatar Enlargement: We've got the solution

Nope.

#4: this dystopian film noir adventure game, reminiscent of Blade Runner, had a very comic book feel to it; things unfolded from a first-person perspective, but there was almost no actual movement--you chose where you wanted to go or who you wanted to talk to, and it happened. There was very little in the way of animation, save for a handful of action sequences, including a side-scrolling shooter that ended the game.

A Myst Clone eh?

Not my strong point at all. In fact, I can't think of any save the usual fantasy/horror suspects, plus any amount of bad FMV games.

Nope. Out long before Myst, but you have the right general idea on how the interface worked. Out before other comic book-esque film noir adventures as well, i.e. Gabriel Knight. No FMV either. Not really fantasy, or horror for that matter. In my opinion, underappreciated and underplayed at the time of release, but became hugely influential.

#5: those who died from the designer drug in question did so in horrible (though brief) agony, their bodies mutating, gaining distinctly reptilian qualities.

Box. Came out in 1990.

You thought it was rubbish? I thought it was terrific. Very atmospheric. Ahead of its time in many ways.

Right, I played this on my Amiga but it may have come out on other platforms too, though I doubt it.
Confusingly, it had a different title in America, so I don't know what it was called in Europe. *

1) "Double, double toil and trouble;
Fire burn, and cauldron bubble.
Fillet of a fenny snake,
In the cauldron boil and bake;
Eye of newt and toe of frog,
Wool of bat and tongue of dog,
Adder's fork and blind-worm's sting,
Lizard's leg and owlet's wing,
For a charm of powerful trouble,
Like a hell-broth boil and bubble."

This is a bit of a mean clue, but you'll know why I had to start with it when you've guessed the game. (Other clues would have been too easy )

*I do know what it was called in the UK, and the US, so you can still guess!

There are simply too many witch games out there.

I won't even try guessing this one cause I don't want to spoil possible future candidates.

We need more clues.

Time for number (2)!

1) "Double, double toil and trouble;
Fire burn, and cauldron bubble.
Fillet of a fenny snake,
In the cauldron boil and bake;
Eye of newt and toe of frog,
Wool of bat and tongue of dog,
Adder's fork and blind-worm's sting,
Lizard's leg and owlet's wing,
For a charm of powerful trouble,
Like a hell-broth boil and bubble."

2) Sneakers, tricksters, fiddlers and nutters! (a tiny bity of poetic licence here, but since I used Shakespeare in the first clue, then I feel I'm entitled to it! )

Now I said the clues would get easy!
