One of them lived a few hundred metres from me, but I'd never met him before. We rode on the bus alone for 5 minutes one time after he found out. I smiled at him the whole time. That might have been a bit much. I sort of feel bad about that.

It depends on how serious the relationship was. If you really think cheating is wrong, you won't do it. But if you really think it is morally wrong, then it's not OK for anyone to do it or for anyone to knowingly effect it - including you. Put yourself in the other person's shoes and see how you would like it.

Of course it's case relative. If it's the torrid beginning of what will be the long term love affair of your life it's perfectly all right since no decent person would wish to stand in the way of such a thing.

Then again, it's not a really big deal; rather a minor moral crime.

Well I'm a tired old virtue ethicist. At root, I think it is unhealthy for people to act that way - it corrupts one's character. Not a great deal, but it still does.

About promises.

Trust is required for real human relationships. If other people break that trust it's bad for me; but if I break a solemn promise I'm basically making myself into a person who can't even trust himself and by my own values into someone I would hold in contempt. Who would want to be the sort of person who couldn't even believe their own utterances?

It's like lying, the more you do it, the easier and more habitual it becomes.

Ha ha, Krazyhorse, my friends in Canada told me about Les Foufounes, and I thought it was a fantastic name for a gay bar. Trust those French Canadians- once they got rid of that rural Catholic stranglehold, they certainly let rip.

I've had sexual intercourse on four continents with a variety of men, one or two married men at that, multiple races/nationalities, multiple partners simultaneously, been to several orgies, drank copious amounts of alcohol (including a date palm liqueur that still manages to instil fear in me at the thought of drinking it again) and tried some recreational drugs.

I was 20, she was 17 and dating the head of the team (also 17)
