By which you mean wasting half the game until the opposition gets bored and goes to sleep?

If you did that in the SH the fans would fall too. I guess that doesn't happen up north with all of that luvly snow, sleet and hail.

Worked though, hasn't it.
Even at test level. Small thing, how a WC victory is important to some .

I gather that the same scientists who discovered and named the unit of time known as the nanosecond are now looking for a name for the new unit of time they've discovered - the polar opposite of the nanosecond - which they've defined as follows:

quote:
"The time it takes for sixteen fat NH rugby forwards to remember why they shoved their heads up the arses of the fat blokes in front of them."

An important event in the lives of those who concern themselves with such mundane matters.

Well, until we win it at which point it really will be important again anyway ...

In what may come as a shock to some, Blues 36 d Hurricanes 12 in one of the S12 pre-seasoners, and this in real (read non-NH) rugby.
The shock being not in the scoreline but, let me quote:

quote:
All Black first five-eighth Carlos Spencer converted all five of his team's tries, also adding a penalty goal for good measure

Hark, was that a thump from yon Leicester way? - sounded a bit like somebody's head hitting the carpet in a dead faint.

Approx 31.8 years so I guess M. Johnson retired when he figured this out rather than for his stated reasons?

Mmmm. The quote didn't reappear. Anyway, it's no surprise at all. Carlos kicked like a champion through most of last year's S12. His problem is that he chokes under the pressure of competition at a higher level.

Well pride comes before a fall I guess.

Though the sad thing is I was right about Stade Francais - they were very poor, thoroughly one dimensional and went about the game exactly the way we expected - driving into the pocket for Dominguez to slot the points.

The big difference was the little Argnetinian Italian scored all but one opportunity - we missed six pots at the post and therefore lost the game.

Was Deano phased? Was he hell as like. He talked about aiming to finish 4th in the league now (we are currently 9th!) How long before he gets pushed now I wonder?

I hate to say it but Dally looked imperious as Wasps slaughtered Perpignan. I bet Stimpson and Luger are happy about their moves now?

You may construe it as sucking up to Tamerlin but I think Toulouse have to be favourites now - being gifted a home tie to an Edingburgh outfit they cruised past this weekend gioves them easy passage to the semis.

Got spare money?

The Blues - Hurricanes warm up match seems to show that the SH learnt nothing from their failure in the RWC then - same old boring continuity pap. Can we sue the SH over the use of 'Super' in the competition title - it seems blatant false advertising.

Suffering from ads?

Yes, it is a silly name I agree. The concept being it is the Premier club competition in the world you see.

(S12, Celtic league etc being contested by franchises not clubs)

As for it's format - the thought of having to play at least 23 games to win a championship would scare most SH players off would it not? I wonder if anyone has told Larkham he will have to play so often?

Beaten by a very poor, one-dimensional team? Now you know how the Bath supporters have felt the last couple of seasons.

He might only play half the matches but he'd have to travel to South Africa and New Zealand to win S12. How far do your chaps travel? East Cheam?

I quite agree. Glaws beat them several times.

The match stats are telling. Dominguez 6/6 kicks at the sticks. Tigers 1/6. Two tries a piece though one of theirs was a blatantly offside interception in the last action of the game and the other a pushover try. Our tries came from open play from Ellis and Smith. So as I say they were poor, and we should have beaten them. The scoreline flatters them immensely. Munster will take them apart. I will sing the Fields of Athenry with gusto to make it happen.

The Smith try was exceptional – bursting through a tackle and then running three quarters the length of the pitch. With Abbot and Tindall crocked he looks like a sure thing for the six nations.

I strongly suspect Llanelli will brush aside Biaritz as well. Perhaps Glaws are the only away side with any realistic chance of a win (though slim - Wasps jinx them). But who will you support in that one Finbar?

quote:

It does in the East Midlands.

To clarify I believe Toulouse and Wasps look the class acts left in the draw – followed by Munster and Scarlets. The away sides should all be Canon fodder - Glaws have a chance perhaps as I acknowledge above.

quote:

Because they found a sponsor where S12 has failed?

quote:

Where is that?

In the Parker Pen Shield he might be asked to travel as far as Northern Italy – but in the Premiership (before you remind me that is what we were discussing?!) the furthest he will travel will be Leeds and Stockport (where Manchester suburb Sale now play – go figure!).

Are we on a sort of ‘Dermot piccie a day’ thing at the moment Finbar?

And as I ask earlier in the day how long it would be - Dean Richards was sacked by Leicester Tigers on Monday afternoon.

Thanks for everything you have put in to the club over the last 23 years Deano - I am sorry it came to this but it seemed radical change had become unavoidable.

That qualifies the East Midlands as honorary Australians.

Speaking of which, Channel 7, after farting around with the programming of S12, sometimes showing matches at 2am, has now dropped their S12 coverage altogether. They claim that the restrictions - not being allowed to show matches live (restricted to a two hour delay), and only being allowed to show matches played within Australia - made it not worthwhile. Even if they had been allowed to show matches live, they wouldn't have. Their attitude - holding back replays till 2am - was indicative of their contempt for the product.

All of which means that ravagon will have to raid his kiwibank and install Foxtel if he wants to watch S12 this season.

quote:
Where is that?

I was inspired to resurrect East Cheam after watching a couple of eps of "Hancock's Half Hour" on cable recently. Gee, he was good.

For all the good that'd do me ... The one good thing about their coverage was the fact that it was delayed. I would've never been able to see it live except for the odd day-nighter that started late.
Late-night replays were fine as they were. It just meant that I yawned a bit more during work the next day.

They are running a series about the Top Ten Sitcom's at the moment over here. It is on BBC2.
Surprisingly, as part of the current drive to reduce costs, it only includes BBC programs
There are, however, many great moments involved.
My favourite is "Fawlty Towers," although, episodes of "Only Fools and Horses", "Blackadder", and some classic Hancock such as "The Blood Doner" run it close.

Yes, they're all classics. One of the benefits of cable - they all get a regular airing. Both "Fawlty Towers" and "Blackadder" are playing here at the moment. And, of course, "Hancock".

We're also getting 4 year-old eps of "So Graham Norton". Very funny man.

From what I hear the board insisted on very specific personnel changes – including a player the crowd thinks is currently useless but Dean praised every week (no names no pack drill). Dean refused so the board asked him to leave. I believe there will be a big clear out very soon.

Just a thought but can you name a decent ITV sitcom? ITV is strong for drama but it’s sitcoms are b***** awful. The Upper Hand springs to mind straight away. :shudder:
