I know there's a way to do this with seeds and all, but I can't seem to work it out.
I have a game I want to restart. I want to practice the settler pump; I'm on a larger-type map and I find I often meander when I have too much room. So this map, wihch is pretty generous in terms of grasslands, I'm playing the Vikings, resources are spread out, etc., seems like an excellent way to hone my REX skills.
But "Play Last World" doesn't work (there have been intervening games played on this machine) and I can't figure out the seed from the save game I have. Plus, even if I have the seed, I'm not sure what the basic settings (large, I think, pangaea...4B?).
Help!

'k, not working. What am I looking for in conquests.ini? The seed is the one that keeps coming up, not the one of the game I want.
The game that's coming up appears to be the last game generated, not the last one played. The last one played does show up as such in the INI file.

I tried playing the last world once. Same civs, but I started out in a totally different location. I tried generating it in the editor, and it was completely different than the map I had played on.

Since I've apparently forgotten what the settings are, I peeked in the save to find out what I'm missing.
What is "WRLD" mentioned in this link?

The save needs to be decompressed before you'll see it. Autosaves aren't compressed, but regular saves are. Gramphos has a utility that will decompress the saves for you, not sure where it's posted though.
It looks like you used radom settings, all the 'settings' are 3. The 'mirrors' are Wet, No Barbs, Pangaea, 70%, Cool, 4 Billion, Huge. That isn't right though, and doesn't generate the right map. The little I can see from your save definitely looks like a Warm map.
What version was the map generated in?

Hmmm.

I would've guessed (did guess) that it was warm, normal wetness (not wet or arid, forget what that's called) and old for all the smoothness.
Last night for giggles and my own edification, I used the seed on the 27 possible climate settings for each of the pangaea settings and did not come up with the same map. (It was remarkably easy to go through the 81 variations--I wish some other things in Civ were set up so easily.)
There were nothing like 81 different maps generated. The same maps came up on several settings. That is, there may have been differences in the maps, but from the starting location and initial terrain, they looked identical.
If barbarians don't make a difference, I don't think I'm going to be able to duplicate it, unless it's not really a pangaea map.

1.12. That machine is still running 1.12 and I did my tests on it. Got another machine running 1.15.
I wouldn't have guessed that would factor in, but I suppose they might still be tweaking map generation.

I got the same map in the editor with the settings mentioned, but using Warm instead of Cold (8957291, Wet, No Barbs, Pangaea, 70%, Warm, 4 Billion, Huge). Barbarians do make a difference, and need to be off. I ended up with slightly different starting locations though.
The starting locations are probably different because of the Seafaring trait, in the editor, and/or that I am running 1.15. The Seafaring trait doesn't affect starting locations in the editor but does in-game, and the editor always generates the max number of starting locations for a given mapsize. I'd guess that to get the exact same map you are going to have to use the same civs (in the same order), or at least have the Seafaring trait represented the same way.
