Jamski is trying to turn himself into an oilslick.

I think that shortcuts wouldn't work very well unless the courses were much longer than they are. It would make for an interesting pile-up when the pack approached them, but the leader would just treat it as track and fly through. You'd have to have oil slicks at the end so that the leader wouldn't be so ready to take the shortcut, and to persuade those behind that maybe sticking to the track would be the right thing to do. Or maybe only show a small part of the short cut when the racers first approach it, and make it a "long cut".

As for the shortcut, why not make it a little more windy, so you have to go slower, and it's easier to go off, while also being shorter?

Nah, orders should not be changed once the GM has processed them. I should have been more carefull.

I agree with Rasputin, but with the length that these threads are reaching at the moment, then a couple of laps would take a few threads.

You could have one or two set tracks, and have the players race on them. You could make people do them backwards, like in Gran Turismo, if you needed more variation, but it'd be fun because people could set lap records (in number of rounds), and would also be at a larger disadvantage if they won and had to start on the outside, because the track layout wouldn't be a mystery any more. The oil slicks and sand traps could be moved for each race, but the basic tracks would still be a loop of some kind.

Or maybe a circular track with the turn commands actually sending you in that direction, for example, we are all heading at 90 degrees in the race above. A left turn will keep you heading at 135 degrees (Northwest diagonal), and a double left will get you at 180 degrees (straight west).

I'd like to see a track that makes you slow down for the turns, and then lets you crank it up for the straights.

should be a max speed through corners, too fast and you spin off.... just as in real life...
