No I can accept that a state does not want to give out money to poor people, yet aspire to rule the world. What i cannot understand why it is important for the Bush administration to support oganisations financially that are against abortion. Read the article. Why does the US taxpayer have to give money to anti-abortion groups in differnt countries?

The article doesn't say that, but you didn't answer my question. I'll expand upon it, if I encourage abortion in the 3rd world and help pay for those abortions, am I responsible when a woman dies from an abortion I encouraged and paid for?
|
No. This is not about personal guilt although I gather this is very important to conservatives. This is about the fact that more women die when medical facilities are lacking and when information is lacking. When Bush or the Pope says that abstinence is the only way to prevent unwanted pregnancies, this message has very little impact if any.
Therefore it is important that women who choose to have an abortion are helped by professional people in sanitary environment. If if they choose to do so they will no matter what the conditions. To support abortion is simply allowing the greatest number of women safety from dying. Why support a policy that means that more women are dying? Seems perverse.

Bush wants the information more balanced, right now abstinance is largely ignored. Out of wedlock birth rates are at their highest, so there is doubt the liberal approach has achieved wondrous results.
So, I'm not responsible if a woman dies from an abortion I encouraged and paid for. Then why am I responsible if a woman dies when I'm not even involved in her decision making process?

That isn't my responsibility. If it's yours, go to the 3rd world and proceed with your agenda.

And that is their responsibility.

Obviously some people consider the lives of women and unborn babies to have a legitimate right to exist, so how about the 10's of millions of dead babies because of widespread abortion? Roughly half of those killed by abortions are female, how are you protecting the weaker sex? Abortion is illegal in Ireland the last I heard, how many women died there because of that policy? Are you sure you want to base your argument on those numbers?

I think that the assaertion that 'abstinence has been ignored' will sound absurd to catholics. Regarding out of wedlock birth rates this is not in itself a problem. many people are choosing out of their own free will to have children out of wedlock. Also i suspect many married women have abortions.
You are not responsible either way. However I just thought it approriate to lay bare the, to me evident, contradiction in the Bush policy of actively preventing abortions. It invalidates Bush's claim to be the defender of freedom on so many levels. Firstly the freedom of women is taken away. Secondly the freedom of organisations to push the abortion issue is taken away. Lastly the freedom of the American taxpayer is taken away, when any new administration can levy taxes to pay for questionable policy aims.

The problem is that women will choose abortions in any case. A police state would have to be imposed to prevent women to have abortions. In Ireland it is illegal (I think), however traveling to England to get an abotion is an often used way out.
