Hey. I'm new to playing SMAC/X online. I was wondering if ne of you seasoned people would mind gaming with me. Ne rules or requests u guys want I can answer to. (It'll be email based btw).

Um... Standard size...average water, average terrain, average lifeforms...etc.

Any standard civs are fine. Or if you want, you can use a BALENCED custom civilization

which means:
-They must have a set ideology, with their asorted pros and cons obvous
- No free facilities that are not made available by your free technologies (no fusion labs unless fusion power is ur free tech (which it won't be)
-Facton bonus' must add up to +1 (or lower) Which means you can have +5 industry, but you must have -4 in some other area, or 4 -1's, etc.)
-No touching anything on the rules editing page of the faction editor (unless it is logical)
-No free techs above level 2. You can only use 1 level 2 tech, or 2 level 1 techs.
-No bonus ANYTHING (fungus nutrients, bonus techs, etc.

But to sum it up: It would be a realistic faction you would find in a balenced game

it is 3 of us now. it is good to have 4 persons in the play, it gives more possibilities in diplomacy. It is also good to have a CMN (coordinator, moderator, narrator). Usually it is a person who do not play, but prepares a map, sets up passwords and just plays a role of a referee.

I'm willing, and a half decent player... I tend to use a modified Consiousness or Uni... if neither is availible, there's always Diedre..

Please write your preferences where they are still missing. When we have these, we just need CMN, if it is ok with everyone. An option is play without CMN (a bit more difficult to setup a game).

Hookay! Just one little question.... Am I the only one who has had trouble with the game actually letting the Counciousness steal tech? That being said, prefrences are Gigantic, 30-50 Ocean, Average on the rest, All Victories, Do or Die, No Survey..... all the rest no.... As for difficulty, preferably something in the middle to lower half... not another 'god' game, please! I've suffered greatly at the hands of the authority of the believers.... I don't exactly have the levels memorized.... so I couldn't say a specific one...

Hey, I'd like to jump in this aswell if you're still taking people in ?
ps, if you hate transcend i still wouldn't go more then 1 level below that (thinker) or else you're going to see the AI build around 3-4 bases on a gigantic map and thats it, looks rather sad after all the effort you've put in building an empire to crush them

My only preferences changes are that I'd like to have Spolis of War on, I just love to steal technlogy.
I think that the skill level would be better, for me at least, at thinker level, trancend gets a bit sticky.
Aside from that, everything else looks agreeable.

Does anyone else know what all the levels are, in order? If I remember the first ones... its Citizen, Specialist, Thinker? Is that right? And spoils eliminates one of my bonuses as the Couciousness... I guess I might do a little extra modding is all....

I see it as being just a fun game. Cause of that I wanted people to be able to use custom factions if they wanted...Turns out they're happy w. the ones they already got.

As far as I can tell, my custom faction is balced I think. Ill let u decide. +1 economy/industry/growth, -3 morale. Free hologram theatres w. P.Netwrks. Any Ideas on how to make it more balanced? PS: I may need the email adress of the designer to email my custom faction files to; unless they'res an easier way.

If we decide for CMN, then he/she might decide how to balance the Utopia faction, as for me it is ok the way it is now. I have prepared new table - please see above edited post. This game appears to be quite interesting - I hope we will have an excellent story to it too.

Techshare 3 and free holograms so effectively you're getting Planetary Datalinks and the Virtual World as free secret projects for the faction ? combined with great positives and almost nothing to hinder it (morale barely matters for a builder)
This is a very strong faction


Preferences : Transcend/thinker dont mind
Average erosion, rare lifeforms, 30-50% water, Large map average clouds, all victory conditions on, no to just about everything else apart from do or die which gets a yes vote

That's a problem in unpatched SMAX. I'd suggest you download SMAX patch version 2 from the Firaxis site.

I thinks he gets planetary networks for a tech... And I was right! You people are all crazy! I haven't played over librarian for over a year and a half... not nearly as much as I did when I played SMAX for six to eight hours a day.... I guess I'll just have to try and remember how to play quick.... Everyone, declare prefs!

Everything else doesn't really matter to me. Also, i'm assuming that since we only have 6 PCs, one faction has to be CPU? I'm fine with anything but one of the alien races for CPU.

- CMN is Coordinator, Moderator, Narrator. I'll post for someone to volunteer.

- Lazerus, you indicated SocPsych as free tech, is then University you wish to play? or other faction?

- Quezacotl06, check the preferences, you started the thread - you decide and have final decision.

- Ouro_827, please post your modified Cybernetic Consciousness file if you wish to play it, so we all can see it.

- I propose as the seventh faction - Cult of Planet or Free Drones, accordingly to what you Almostz decide. Please all players tell your prefferences as for possible other factions also.

- As there is going to be 6 human players, difficulty setting has less influence compared to games with more AI factions. Too low diff. setting will make it really easy prey, if that fac will not be enhanced, but who knows.....
