	Renaming Karina Support Apolyton, buy Alpha Centauri

As Karina is the site of our FP, and the center of what will one day be our stronger core of cities, it's been suggested that we rename the city, so I'm bringing up the topic in the forum. As it is the FP city and it would be impossible for anyone to know that (as they could see with the Palace/Capital) we would not want to rename it something so overt as "Apolyton" to disguise its true role. However, we could rename it to something less obvious and more befitting to a city of its role.

What does the Senate think?

I think Karina should stay it's name. The city has slowly evolved into what it is now. Besides, I think the actual Karina would be rather miffed at changing the name.

No, absolutely not!! That city name was a tribute to our First Consul, Vondrack. It would be a slap in his face if we were to do that.

Both good questions that I don't have an answer for.

The only thing that I might have heard, was that it wasn't dignified enough for the FP, IF that is what I think I had seen in a log some time ago.

And From an Intelligence Prespective, do we really want to change the name, to fit the bill. If we do that, lets just rename it to "OurFPisHERE!!".

BTW, thanks to everybody still remembering it was me naming the city after my beloved - I appreciate there are so many people saying it should stay as is.

Don't I recall a rather heated discussion about naming more cities in honour of those who have shaped the game thus far? Karina fits that bill, and unless we want to do a stupid English-style renaming of already settled cities with every new leadership (New Amsterdam - New York), there is no need to change such a name.

On an OT note, would 'New Amsterdam' have the same status today as 'New York' does? :/

Actually, it didn't, the consuls did. Karina was on the "official names list" and it was decided by the consuls while playing the turn to name the city that.

Look, Trip has a right to ask the question. Every member of this team can question any aspect of what we do. It's up to the individual members to democratically decide what we do and if any changes should be made in any area of the game.

It may have not been a popular idea that Trip had to rename it, but he is still entitled to bring the issue forward. Heck, I should know. I'll poll the hell out of a topic until I'm satisfied it's dead!

Trip should not be derided because of his opinon about our FP city. I know for a fact he did not mean any offense to vondrack or his girlfriend.
