Hi. I'd like to start a new pbem game, to be played on a large earth map, maybe El Mencey's map, and a lot of players. Is anyone interested?

Good. How many players should we include in your opinion?

This would be my first pbem game, so apart form the Earth map, what other settings should we decide? Barbarians etc.?

I'd like to join also. My local time is GMT+2.
There might be some delays, because I can only post from work and I can only play at home, so I'll only be able to play one turn every 24h at most.
Any level of barbarian activity is fine with me, I'm not sure about AI players, though.
Will it be C3C1.15 beta or something earlier?
In any case, I prefer the Ottomans.

I think he had a specific map in mind.
BTW, does it include geographically correct start locations, or should they be random?

My desire is to play on a large Earth map. There is a huge 360*360 map by El Mencey, or the classic Marla Singer's map, with 10 players or more. I know it wouldn't be funny during the first turns, but then it could really get cool. I hate barbarians, so we might set them to villages only.

Great! Let's wait for three more players. By the way I thought that in huge maps the 8 players limit could be exceeded, but it can't. It'll be cool anyway.
Now we have to decide:
we can use this 256*256 Earth map, you can find it here
http://www.bclay.com/civ3maps/MapsDesc.asp?map_id=59
with the regular starting locations.
Barbarian activity will be set to roaming.
No wonder victory, and no space race victory.
Let's vote

I agree with those conditions. I'm curious to play a huge Earth map, I never had the patience to complete a SP game on one of them. I hope you realise this is going to take very long.
Also, I think we should vote on RL or random start locations, ie Ottomans start where RL Isatnbul is, French start where RL Paris is a.s.o. The advantage is that everyone the general direction of exploration to meet other players. The downside is that some civs are at a disdvantage: the English, the Mongols, the Japanese, the Aztecs and the Mayas (they are in C3C epic games, right?) are going to be extra tough to play. Also, Middle East and Europe will be kind of crowded, with Ottomans, Babylon, Egypt, Persia (in ME) and French, Germans, Spanish and Romans (in Europe) all starting so close to each other (I don't remember C3C additions for this area).
Random start locations, on the other hand, will make contacts a bit more difficult and exploration more interesting, as nobody knows where exactly they are.
I prefer C3C, unless someone doesn't have it yet.

No space race means that we only have domination and conquest. How about diplomacy?

I vote for RL starting locations, while regarding UN victory I vote no. Let's see the other players' votes.
By the way I'd like to take the Romans.

I'm not sure about the real start locations - certain civs will be at a severe disadvantage - All desert and island countries (eg England).

You raise a valid point - Cultural is still available.
Maybe science should be allowed - if you get that far, you must be pretty powerful.

So when are we beginning? I'd like to be the Ottomans if at all possible.

I'm sorry, but I'm experiencing a lot of connection problems. I cannot guarantee regular turns, so you can start without me.
