Yeah, I'm up for dodging the draft. Hopefully, anyone stupid enough to push for a draft would get assassinated (not by me, though, before all you right wing extremists try to report me to someone, like the NKVD, no oops wait wrong regime). I think you all are missing the point. We don't NEED a draft, nore does the military WANT one. All stops of retirements and expired enlistments have been lifted for everything but a few rates. The stop was just common procedure during a time of conflict, ie we don't want the platoon seargent retireing int he middle of the fight.

I bet you there is a memo every year inquiring as to the feasability of the draft. Bieng a government program it recieves yearly review just like the rest of them.

Guess what? I hear they had a review on the feasibility of lauching a nuclear strike this year. EVERYONE HEAD TO THE HILLS!!!

Perhaps someone has already said this, but the Pentagon stated a few months ago if a conflict started in NK while we were still in Iraq, the draft would be reinstated.

Obviously, but we are not in conflict with NK, and dispite all the talking heads have not been in danger of a full scale conventional conflict in decades.

Thats like saying "if we have a war with China we are going to have a draft," or "If I put my hand on a hot stove it will get burned."

Of course if we drafted a million people you chances would be 1/8500. So a guess I should support the draft as it increases my chances of survival.

No, the criticism is that they chickened out of a war they publically supported and that today they want to tell others to go fight. Besides, we're a long way away from needing a draft. Yes, recruitment is down, but the armed forces still have quite a few volunteers.

But they had quite a few extra that were being turned away- about 50,000/year for the army alone, I believe.

Now they're around the break even point. Further erosion could occur depending on what happens overseas in Afghanistan and Iraq.

Once again, this year we outprocessed/fired 400 aviation students alone. There are so many aplicants that we don't need to keep people who can't make the grades.
