Discussion: Public Code of Conduct Avatar Enlargement: We've got the solution

Background thread:

http://www.apolyton.net/forums/show...threadid=109539

------------------

The poll over who should vote at the UN is now closed. The team has decided that posting at the UN should not be limited to any member but that anyone who posts must observe a code of conduct to avoid the innappropriate behavior that has occasionally been shown in the past.

This thread is to discuss the wording of the Public Code of Conduct which will be established to that all people - citizens, ministers and consuls - must abide by when posting in public forums (well, in reality only the UN). Note that this only relates to forums related to this ISDG, behavior in any other public non-ISDG forum cannot be enforced or punished.

In my opinion this code of conduct should address the following:

1) Insults - things like "cheating asses"

2) Trolling - rude, sarcastic and provocative comments who's sole aim is to incite an equally heated response.

in general the Code should aim to encourage people to be as tactful and respectful as possible when dealing with others irrespectively on how other teams treat us.

Punshment for not abiding by the Code should be an immediate banning from posting in public forums. This will be done by any team member who feels inappropriate behavior has been shown in which case a poll will be held to decide if this was so or not.

Another thing to be added to the code:

Contradicting what another member has said.

We want to present the image of an organized and prepared team. We don't need people suggesting different things that contradict what has already been said by someone else. This often presents "inferior" suggestions that other teams may find attractive and might desire them, even if they weren't "official" suggestions.

So whoever posts first is spokesperson for our team?

I think you're confused about what a "Code of Conduct" is, Trip.

One would hope one other might discuss what they intend to post with other members of the team before they do so.

While Trip's concern regarding a divided stance by the team is a liability, Dominae's point that Trip's proposal essentially cedes team policy to whomever posts first is entirely valid.

This is one of the reasons why having an official representative is an attractive option. Others can post their opinions, but it must be understood that the official team position will come from the team rep, who will only post such an official position after it has been agreed to by the team.

Sensible?

What we need to do is to make a conscious effort not to argue with other apolyton members in the public forum. We can't make this a hardline rule, but it should be a policy that we should agree to respect.

If we disagree with a public post by another team member, we need to handle that issue inside, hash it out, and return with a post that clarifies the team's position.

However, I see no problem with one of us saying, "I disagree with the opinion of (other apolyton team member)", so long as the poster clarifies that his view is not the team's view. However, holding actual arguments with another apolyton team member or getting mad at another team member in public posts is just in very poor taste.

And of course no trolling, badgering, or insulting.
