Which means that every poster can create only one thread per day in the off-topic forum
comments?

Why?! Talk about a step backwards. Why not just restrict OT all together. Was it a problem before or maybe just a problem with a few posters??? This is a mistake.

So I guess this means I only need to visit Apolyton one time per day... talk about a site that will dry up. The only difference (and it's a big difference IMHO) between this site and others is the OT. It's a fun place to hang out. Or at least was.
If someone speeds you take that persons right to drive away - not everyones. duh.

MWHC, depending on how many good posters this feature causes trouble to, we're willing to make that 24 hours, 12 or whatever. But I dont think you will disagree that there is a problem with some people...
Narck, the script keeps a log of the people who started a new thread and compares it with the recent time to see if a day has passed

btw, in case you did not understand it MWHC, we are talking about the CREATION OF NEW THREADS, not posting to existing ones. One can make replies to AS MANY threads as he likes....

This is outrageous. I do not deny that some spammers are out of control, but this is NOT the way to solve the problem. Some posters have legitimate questions they want answered, that would not go well together in a single thread. (Anyone who has an example, please post it below.) I would not be surprised if some posters created new DLs to bypass this limit, and I would not blame them.
If you do decide to keep this limit, please apply it to the moderators as well.

YOU HAVE TO BE KIDDING!
I agree with most of the posters and think that this is really too much.
In addition, I think this will only make matters worse, because people will create double log ons to get around this rule!
Most people are really good about the number of threads they start. And those that go overboard get warned, then restricted.
MarkG, please rethink this position. If you are going to put a limit on it, at least make it 3 or 4. I don't think that is too unreasonable. As stated, many people show up, creat 3 to 5 threads, and then come back later to check responses. Yes, sometimes we do have a problem, but MLeonard and I usually solve it

If I say I started 20 threads since I registered in May last year I would be exaggerating. But there were days that I started more than 1. And I sure would like it to stay that way.
Markos, pls listen to Ming and go back on this decision.

*Clears throat* KRHM! MarkG, did you know that OT is not only SPAM, SPAM and SPAM?
<img src=/forums/"/images/blue1.gif" width=100% height=1></font></td></tr></table></center>of course it's not spam! that's why I'm interested to see how many people and how many times this will actually affect

the people that did spam meaningless threads had them locked and they got a vacation.

Circular Effect Relationship. If you have a lot of people who worry about Spam and what it does to the community, you do not get spam, and spammers are frozen out. If you impose a dictatorial rule on the posters, Spam becoes a way to express yourself, and Spammers are celebrated as heroes. Result- Unmoderated forum, as much spam as the community wants, with that level being quite low for this forum as it was for .owo., Moderated forum, lots of spam that just bothers the moderators.
Anyway, what you really want to prevent is bored people creating a string of threads in a short period. Set the rule to one every hour, and I guarantee that the effect will be similar without the enormous loss of creativity one thread a day will accomplish.
Essentially, it will be like this- Poster A makes a thread, and needs to make another. So, he messages Poster B by ICQ, who makes the thread for him. Inconvenient and rather stupid.

But even one thread an hour would be a problem because of peoples posting patterns.
Can you cut it down to one thread every 10 minutes? That way, it will stop the real spam artists, and still let people post more than one thread.
<img src=/forums/"/images/blue1.gif" width=100% height=1></font></td></tr></table></center>it would? I think even 12 hours would be a short time, and I'm not talking just about simple spam, but also about organized attacks(and we had similar events recently)

<img src=/forums/"/images/blue1.gif" width=100% height=1></font></td></tr></table></center>all the people are already penalized for the acts of the few. everyone is not allowed to post images in the OT. everyone is not allowed to use some html codes in posts and no html at all in signatures. everyone is not allowed to make a login with a free e-mail address....
I would like to see in the next couple of days how many people actually have a problem, and not just a theoretical disagreement, before making any changes.

<img src=/forums/"/images/blue1.gif" width=100% height=1></font></td></tr></table></center>on the other hand, such a limit could drive people to think before they create a thread, and thus create a more interesting thread(instead of 3-4 stupid ones that will be on page 2 in 4 hours). eventually, we could have a better forum
