I am only relaying to you what I see and hear. As far as pressure to conform. I donm't put that on my kids or other people. I let people be themselves. Like I said as the U.S. integrates more race will be less important.

I don't have an opinion on whether or not Rice and Powell should play that game. People have put up reasons why they should but I have not really considered them yet. I am still working on GW2 /ME and the part they played in it. My views on them are based
entirely on that and nothing else.

And cover one lie with a bigger lie, even though their first lie was found out. Don't think so.

Anyway the war is about "stability, peace and demcracy" (of which there is none), and "terror-links" (of which there were none), and "getting rid of a brutal dictator" (so brutal that no charges have as of yet been brought against him).

Tired of ads?

I seriously doubt that the administration even considered the question of what would happen if we didn't find WMDs. They don't show any ability to think more than one jump ahead. That's why they are surprised by the vehemence of the Iraqi insurrection. That's why they couldn't figure out that other countries would be annoyed by our lying to them. That's why they think supply side economics is a good idea. They simply aren't very bright.

They believe what they want to believe. Anything else they ignore or attack.

DD, do you reckon that the Bush admin would have had enough faith in their own abilities to manufacture the necessary WMD evidence on such a scale as to convince neutral inspectors of its validity?

Avatar Enlargement: We've got the solution

The lie from the amdinistration does not lie in their stating the belief that Iraq may have had WMD's. The lie comes from stating as fact they knew the locations fo stockpiles, probalby the quantities as well. And with trully "sexed up" documents like that form the UK (a british lie the admin. fully backed) stating that Iraq could launch a WMD attack in 45 minutes.

There is a world of difference saying:

"According to the best intelligence from the international community and the UN, we believed in 1998, the last time inspectors were there, that Saddam Hussein had kept some stockpiles, and while evidence since then is sketchy and incomplete, we believe he probalby still has these weapons becuase why would he chuck them?"

and saying:

"The CIA and UK intelliegence tell us Saddam has reconstituted his weapons programs, his nuclear program-in fact, let me show you a list of sites we KNOW Iraq has WMD's at-AND we know these weapons are in standby mode right now".

If you say the first, you are leaving room for discussion, debate-people can say "hey, why should we go to war on your assumptions" and so forth.

Say the second, and you polarize the debate, since now for people to challenge you, they can;t simply argue with your assumptions, they must call you a liar and attempt to disprove you-but since you can always claim to have information the other could not have access to, how can it be a fair arguement in the public stage? It can't.

Well, the Bush admin could have found easier lies to go to war, if they were all about lies.

Presidents in the past -- some of our best ones -- have used much dodgier, but infinitely simpler, justifications for war declarations. You know, things that can't really be refuted. The number of people who would have to be in on the lie in this instance is just astronomical. You can't tell thousands of career civil servants to lie, even if it's deep classified. It doesn't work.

Despite the fact that the intelligence community was waving big red flags saying, "HEY, YO! This intelligence you're pedling is HIGLY SUSPECT!!!!!" With forrmer Pentagon staffers now saying the data was cooked by the OSP, there's little doubt among critically thinking people that this was a failure of politics, not intelligence.

The only part of the justification where this happened was the Niger uranium issue. The other stuff was supported by an intelligence estimate, something like a peer-reviewed report about what the intelligence community thought about Saddam's chemical and biological weapons capabilities.

NO, sorry, but you totally ignored my post:

NONE of these intelliegence agencies ever said to their leaders "we can tell you 100% , cuase we are dead sure, these guys have these weapons in these locations, and they are poised to go off!"

They said "The best intelligence we have, some of it years old, some from possibly questionable sources, make us suspect Iraq still may have stockpiles of WMDs and if we had to guess, we would say they still have some-though we can't be 100% sure".

The administrations then took this and said: Intelligence shows us that it is unquestionable to say Iraq has WMDs today that threaten the free world. We must invade

That was the lie, and no, the intelliegence agencies were not part of it-their fault lies at passing forward questionable info form questionable sources without too much equivication.

Yes there is. Rice (though not Powell, IIRC), is a member of the Black middle-class and has been refered to as a BAP, Black-American Princess. Middle-class Blacks are very different than working and lumpen Blacks. Among the BMC, there is even more pressure to conform, but not to what is typically refered to as "Black" behavior. The BMC, aka, "bourgeois Blacks," there is enormous pressure to succeed educationally, to marry only among your peers (other BMC), speak proper English, etc. etc.

Among Lumpen Black people (and among most Lumpen in general) there is a prohibition against acting "better than what you are." In the Lumpen Black community, this is called "acting white." Education is for losers. Take advantage of the sytem. The world owes you a living. Don't be a sucker, etc. This isn't unique to Black lumpens, but it's the only place where it takes on an overtly racial tinge.

Black lumpens have an inordinate amount of political power in the Black community, however, owing partially to their artisitic, entertainment, and sports talents. They are better able to make themselves heard and to spread their "ideology" in the community. On top of that, because lumpen Blacks scare the bejeezuz outta whites, the white community also pays a lot of attention to what they say. Black proles and middle class are virtually invisible.
