Presumably, the aims where to a) make the Age of Sail longer (plenty of people were complaining it was too short) and b) make the Steam Power tech somewhat less powerful.

They undeniably succeeded with a), altho at the cost of making Ironclads close to irrelevant. As for the second, well, it still gives RRs, which is enough to make it a top priority, and should you want the Ironclads, you'll need it anyway.

Good point, still Ironclad tech has a bit of a pointless feeling to it. Mind i've never worked out why you get aircraft carriers before aircraft

But, Radio only gave nothing in the original (vanilla) version of Civ 3. PtW fixed that by allowing radar towers and civil defense (or whatever it's called) with Radio.

True, I had a mometary memory lapse.

OK I miss radio then. Now I haven't followed 1.22 much at all since most of my PBEMs and demo games are still 1.15.

Where did the radar towers and Civil Defense go to? Which tech (s) is (are) the prereq?

Umm, pedrojedi... those slave workers doing half a job cost you zero maintenance. This means it's a no-brainer to only use native workers for radar towers, if you insist on building them at all.

The most efficient workforce possible is comprised entirely of slave workers doing half-jobs.

Radar Towers went to Adv Flight, Civil Defense to Electronics.

I typically have a hundred or so. With stack movement, the only extra work is clicking "mine" or any other action button twice. That doesn't take a significant amount of time. When you have nothing for them to do, automate them. That eliminates the problem altogether.

I don't like to auto-mate (hmmm...) workers - they have the tendency to go to places I'd rather not send them.

I hate lots of slaves because they take longer to do anything, and you have to move a much larger group of them to make anything. And I try to keep them to a minimum, so they don't "pollute" my screen.

Yeah, I put money away - that's my style. Stupid, sometimes, but this is one of those things that tipically can't be changed. Oh, I like to make other things to them, like outposts or airfields, which I like the most.

In the end, I still like a more efficient, faster worker.

To each his own, of course. With the improvements to automation, I find it usable once my main RR is down.
