The fastest way to play PBEM games is in a chatroom. One of the reasons why ISDG FAM #4 remains one of my fastest PBEMs over time is that we did several lightning round sessions in the Apolyton IRC chatroom early in the game. There were rounds in the early game that literally only took about 10 minutes or less to play with 5 players.

That's been pretty rare over the past several months, though.

mmm... chatroom civ ... sounds almost dirty. Seriously tho, sounds like it would be fun (and fairly fast I suppose, since everyone would be paying attention to immediately when you were done with turns). Although the advantage of pure PBEM is that you only have to pay attention every ten to thirty minutes (and can watch TV, clean house, mow lawns, etc. until the e-mail bell rings)... Just depends on how much of a civ-dork one is.

That said, I'd be happy to play some chatroom civ anytime anyone else is up for it. Shows how much of a civ-dork *I* am.

3500 to Paddy.

This has GOT to be the worst starting area I have ever seen in a game of Civ3 (with possible exceptions for either the horrible start we got in the Inter-Site Democracy Game or the original single-player democracy game - both starts with ENORMOUS jungles and only a handful of usable tiles in the starting area).

Thankfully, that should mean that no-one is going to be terribly eager to take it away from me.
