I too would like to play another game when we've finished this one, thoughly enjoying this game & opponants I think if we were to do another 3x2 I wouldn't take Morgan though. I'm not sure he's as well suited to this format as, say, the drones, or the angels.
2161 to Darsnan, just as soon as I finish an email.
Advance notice, I'll be calling the council in 2178 or 2179 as soon as I can Had Darsnan waiting a few turns I would have been governor... Bah!
To my mind the main thing in PBEM vs. IP is time. I can literally spend hours on a turn if I want, calculating every move, weighing all the options until settling on the best option. IP, I can't do that. That's where the extra competitiveness comes in I think. It's not that PBEMers are much better than IPers, it's just that we can think more about it. I could be completely wrong however, cos I've never played IP, and havent really got the inclincation to try.

Our condolences to the "almost could've been" Governor.... Also, thanx for the forewarning for the next elections. We will also now give advance notice that we will be sending a diplomatic delegation to the lands of Chaunk in 2177 or 2178 with the intent of negotiating for the Gaian and Pirate voting block$....

Also 2110 in CCS to CS. I suggest we start tracking the turn here (Although we can start a separate thread if you want D?) since the turn is going missing so often. |
Am I supposed to know what the heck this is about, or is this some sort of coded joke between the southerners at their northern neighbor's expense?

OOC: I too am enjoying this game - never played in a 3X2 before, and I have to say this is a little different, both strategically and diplomatically, IMO. Sure, I could go for another rendition of this. ChairmanSlick: any chance you'd be interested in making it a PBEM based upon the Aldebaran mod ? Both Chaunk and I are participating in this, but are still newb's in this environment, so you wouldn't be far behind us in the learning curve, IMO. If not, no big deal, but I do recommend the mod to anyone interested in playing (SP or PBEM)in a slightly different environment than the traditional SMAC(X): SmackSim has put some very good thought into this, and people should give it a try.

Turn onto chaunk a few hours ago.
I'll read up on the aldebaran mod and get back to you Darsnan. I wouldn't mind starting another similar game to this though... perhaps we could do both. All my other games have fallen by the way side (except CCS [ the 3x2 game that me and Chaunk started]).

hmmm, i think four players could be ok, but it i'd miss the all human action of a 3x2. 4 humans with 3 AI, and a slower turn speed is unimpressive somehow.
Chaunk, CCS is back to you -- its interesting already, might i add!

OK, how about Googlie's idea of a "Forced Faction 3X2" game whereby each of your opponents gets to choose one of your two starting Factions? Googlie's also fleshed it out a bit more with a neat idea whereby you get to "buy" some starting units to begin the game with. Here's a suggested list of what you can "buy" at the beginning of the game:
quote: Originally posted by Googlie
Per Team of 2 factions:
You start with just a single colony pod, and fill your "shopping cart" with what else you want to start with - units, techs (just your own regular starting tech, though), even bid on an SP or 2. Thus (with a budget of 1500 "credits") you choose:
1 Colony pod is a given - everyone starts with a free one for each of their factions. Teams then have to buy everything else to start from the following shopping list:
> a scout costs 100
> a terraformer costs 200
> a synthmetal sentry (needs Ind Base as a tech) costs 200
> a rover probe team (needs Plan Nets) costs 200
> each colony pod or seapod (Pirates only) costs 200
> a mindworm costs 100 (Cult only)
> a Unity Gunship costs 100 (Pirates only)
> a Unity Foil costs 300
> each tech costs 200 (can only buy your factions' starting techs)
> you can bid on 1 or more of the 4 early SP's (ME, CN, WP, HGP)
Submit your wish list to me as soon as you've developed it (especially bids for SP's) |
Regardless, Googlie is gonna be OOT for 3 weeks beginning in mid-August, so I'd say we should at least determine our next game, have Googlie set it up, and if need be we put it in the freezer till we finish this one (which at our turn pace will probably be done before Googlie gets back! ). I'm enjoying this game, and am not too concerned about the format for our next game - I just don't want the same old same old, cuz I've played enough of these games....
