Times have changed; our kids are getting worse.

Should we blame the government?
Or blame society?
Or should we blame the images on tv?

No!

Blame Canada! Blame Canada!
With all their beedy little eyes, their flapping heads so full of lies.
Blame Canada! Blames Canada!
We need to form a full assult.
It's Canada's fault!

Don't blame me for my son Stan.
He saw the darn cartoon and now he's off to join the Klan.
And my boy Eric once had my picture on his shelf,
But now when I see him he tell's me to f*ck myself.

Well...

Blame Canada! Blame Canada!
It seems that everything's gone wrong since Canada came along.
Blame Canada! Blame Canada!
They're not even a real country anyway.

My son could've been a doctor or a lawyer it's true.
Instead he burned up like a piggy on a barbeque.
Should we blame the matches?
Should we blame the fire?
Or the doctors who allowed him to expire?

Heck no!

Blame Canada! Blame Canada!
With their hockey hullabaloo and that b*tch Anne Murray too!
Blame Canada! Shame on Canada...
For the smut we must stop...
The trash we must smash...
The laugher and fun...
Must all be undone...
We must blame them and cause a fuss...

It's interesting that O'Reilly is threatening this boycott - Fox, we report, you decide - just as Fox is trying to get their channel into Canada and citing as his reason two American deserters who apparently have obtained asylum in Canada. I have to wonder if he'd be threatening this boycott if the Canadian government let Fox in. A week earlier O'Reilly was insisting that the government should censor what people can watch or hear on TV and radio down here because those are the public airwaves. I guess he meant the government should censor what he doesn't like, not what the Canadian government wants.

Anyway, O'Reilly and Fox is right. I didn't know Canada is so statist wrt what people can see. And I thought liberals believed in freedom

Oh yeah, O'Reilly cited the push to decriminalise pot in Canada as one of his reasons for the boycott. The irony there is that O'Reilly has said pot should be decriminalised in the US too. And then he said Canada was legalising heroin. The Canadian reporter/editor he had on from the Globe (I believe) denied that saying one mayor wanted to introduce a methadone program in one of Canada's major cities. The next night O'Reilly said a Canadian mayor wanted the "quais-legalisation" of heroin without admitting he flubbed the night before. In one of my emails to O'Reilly I asked him if that meant the USA wants to legalise gay marriage because some mayors are pushing for that policy change. O'Reilly would be funny if he wasn't so powerful, but he can ruin people down here and Canadians shouldn't laugh too much at him, he led a boycott on the French and apparently did some serious damage.

Because that has ANY bearing on his political beliefs whatsoever?

O'Reilly saying that Jesus would probably be against the death penalty, for one, shows that he is either against the DP or not very religious. Secondly he said this to the President, as a challenge. If he were a right-wing lackey, no way he would have said it. I mean O'Reilly pisses over right wingers as much as he does left wingers. I really don't think I could put him in either camp, really.

O'Reilly is an absolute jerk. I don't care if people call him a right-winger or not, but the guy is definitely an *******. It really is best to ignore him (and all things Fox).

-Arrian

p.s. To me, it's clear that he's right-wing. One can be a right-winger and still ask the President a tough question (to the extent that's what that was, which I do not concede ), you know. You can be right-wing w/o being pro-Bush.

when every other mainstream news source said that USMC was withdrawing from Fallujah entirely, and when many RIGHTWING pundits were wringing their hands about it, Fox was reporting that Marines were being repositioned and would stay in the area. Next day General Kimmit announces - what else - that Marines are being repositioned and will remain in the area.

Fox may be unfair and imbalanced, but they are often a source of news reports from the ground that you dont hear elsewhere. As is the Washington Times. As, to be fair, are the Guardian, the Independent, and the BBC.

Meh. There are plenty of places to go to find different perspectives. Faux is one I choose to avoid. Damn near everything about the way they do things irritates me. From their "news" coverage, to their sports coverage.

Having said that, I typically don't watch ANY T.V. news. The news I get is generally off the internet - reuters/a.p., and editorials from papers available online.

That only points to the close connections between the current leadership and Fox, in so far that during the Bush years Fox seems to get a slightly nicer reception from the gov. than anyone else.

may well be.

Kinda like the Washington Times military reporter has some VERY close contacts in the Pentagon, and frequently breaks stories. Under Clinton they were uniformly anti-Clinton, under Bush a bit more mixed I think (reflecting the brass' more ambivalent relationship with Bush) So what, Im looking for news sources. Its not like I rely on Fox to shape my world view (Ive got the Washington Post and The New Republic for that )

The owner of CanWest is a Zionist Jew. I don't know what is it that they say in the CBC, but the French side (SRC) is so neutral it's boring.

CRTC regulation results in some awesome and very original shows like /Kids in the Hall/, /Made in Canada/, /22 Minutes/, /Lexx/, and /Corner Gas/. If the corrupt corporations were allowed free reign, all we'd get would be 24 hours cheap shovelware and the kind of person who watches television would watch it anyway.

The cost:benefit ratio of quality niche programs does not wow corporate bigshots. They'd rather make less money and have a bigger ratio between profit and expenditure.

22 Minutes is pretty good, I have to admit. The rest can just go, and I doubt many would miss them.

If the CBC did not get favouritism with respect to the NHL playoffs, they would go bankrupt very quickly.

Why should we pay all this money for 'niche' programming? Let the private stations do the same job, since that is how most stations build up an audience by appealing to a niche, rather than raising taxes to keep CBC afloat.

If there is real demand for Canadian content, then privatisation will not change things.
