quote:
One death is a tragedy, a million is a statistic
-Iosif Stalin |
Lets remember that the holocost was more than the 6 million Jewish people that were killed, that it also included the mentally ill, people of slavic decent, political dissenters, and gypseys. All told, the final tally might have risen to 10 million people. Add in the 20 million Russians, the 8 million Germans, the 6 Million Japanese, and it is plain that WWII caused the most horrific bloodletting in the history of this world.
Is one death more tragic than another? Is the life that was lost in a bombing of London, Dresden, or Tokyo more or less tragic than the ones lost at Aushwitz, Buchenwald, or Sobibor?
In one sense one could make a distinction between people that were systematically killed and ones that lost theirs in a seemingly random act. But was the bombings of cites a truly random act? Did not someone drop those bombs?
In this vain; is a persons life who was sacrificed to the Aztecs a life less valuable, a death less tragic than one killed by Nazi's?
My point is that Civ III is a brutal game . Within the game it depicts the meciless bombing of civilians, slavery, raizing towns (called "Ethnic Cleansing" now, they are usually refered in history as massacres or sacking) and using Nuclear devices on other civ's. The idea of having a "jew" uint was a bad idea, not because it is somehow offensive, but because its bad game design. Giving the Nazi's a Gestapo unit with a weak attack and the ability to enslave would be a good idea and no more offensive than the ideas that the Civilization games are designed around.

Wouldn't the Gestapo be more like the police in the cityview? You may be thinking SS.
